Teen travelling to Chile alone?

MumTrazie · 13/06/2024 11:27

My teen is to travel to Chile in less than 3 weeks. AIBU to expect the company hosting her to have given me more information? Host family, transfer, school?
When I chase them they say “soon”.

For the second time OP, I think that you are absolutely mad and putting your 16 year old DD in a very vulnerable position. How can you be comfortable in sending her half way across the globe for 6 months to people you’ve never even met when they can’t even tell you the most basic information like where she will be staying or who with? The whole situation sounds ridiculous and you need an urgent rethink for her safety and well-being.

Indianajet · 13/06/2024 11:35

Why is she going to Chile?

DoYouSmokePaul · 13/06/2024 11:38

I would be worried that this is at best a scam but at worst - who knows?! Sex trafficking, drugs smuggling - you have no idea. It seems you do not really know who you’re dealing with. This is not a normal thing to have a 16 year old do! It’s a safeguarding nightmare. Just cancel.

Why didn’t you respond to the person who replied to your last thread about this a few days ago?

Have you contacted NACEL about your concerns by way of complaint? It sounds like they haven’t secured a host family maybe. I think you’re mad to be considering this.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 13/06/2024 11:46

Why are they going? There are positive reviews online for the company but a huge red flag to me is the way the company respond to the review. Someone posts about their son or daughter, the review shows the parent's name. The company then NAMES the minor e.g. we are glad Johnny had a great time in France, so now a minor's full name and photo has been shared form the world to see. No safeguarding there at all.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/06/2024 11:46

This whole thing would be cancelled if I were you. Red flags all over the place.

bluewaxcrayon · 13/06/2024 11:48

I havent' seen your previous threads, but going to be greeted by family would be fine.

A trip with "a host family" of complete strangers with no details? Are you nuts?
I wouldn't be that comfortable to send mine to France in the same circumstances! And that would be easy to get to if needed.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 13/06/2024 11:50

Depends how old the teen is. 13, no. 18, probably but the organiser should definitely have provided details by now, even if it is a group trip where they'll be supervised by the school or professional guides.

What's with the random picture of a woman with a backpack?

Wondering this also, why is OP able to insert an image into her post but wasn’t able to reply to/continue her last thread

blackcherryconserve · 13/06/2024 11:56

Absolutely mad.

Also handily omitting a few facts from this post to take the bad look off things..
