It did here in South London about half an hour ago. Quite big hailstones too.

Here too in York.

Really common to get hail in summer. Sun warms the ground, lots of warm updrafts create huge cumulo nimbus clouds. Some updrafts within the cloud whizz the rain higher into the cooler parts of the atmosphere where it freezes. The bigger the hail the more times it's circulated upwards in the cloud and grown in size.

littleroad · 10/06/2024 19:55

Hail here at 4pm. Prior to that it rained so hard that the kids stopped working and looked out the windows at the playground quickly flooding. Again.

TuesdayWhistler · 10/06/2024 19:58

Weather is odd in spring.
Summer soon though so hopefully it'll warm up.

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 10/06/2024 19:59

From the met office website - in some areas hail is most common in the summer months.

Not much in the way of hot land surfaces hereabouts though. 🥶
