To think bedtime stories should not be emotional?!

This is lighthearted!

Just read Dd the Paper Dolls and got slightly choked up at the boy chopping them up, full on holding back sobs at the memories bit with granny 😭 Trying to read a bedtime story with a massive lump in your throat is a nightmare!

The other one that does it to me is ‘The Girls’ when they all come back to the tree all grown up.

In my defence I’ve been an easy crier since pregnancy and happy to show Dd all emotions but sobbing during bedtime isn’t what I planned 😂

Is there a bedtime book that does it for you too?

My daughter played The Little Match Girl.in her school play aged 7. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

She just asked me why the Snail and the Whale makes me cry and I cried trying to explain! The snail is so tiny but she saves the whale and the children help. Also her family when she returns home to the rock after her adventure.

I loved the Mog books and could never bear to read Goodbye Mog.

Tabby McTat makes me cry too. ...

Jesus, I haven't had the misfortune of reading Stick Man since my dad died a couple of months ago. I would absolutely have gone gung-ho into it with my preschool class and struggled at the end. Thanks for reminding me to avoid it.

Oh bloody hell @Chocolatebrownieyum did they keep it true to the story so it 'ends' with her lighting all the matches and being 'taken away to a better place'...not surprising the tears from all!
