Hi everyone

I've just bought a new dress which is a little clingy because of the fabric it's made of, it's not bodycon or anything, but it does show my lumps and bumps a bit. I've never worn shapewear before, but think it might be worth trying it, so any advice on which brands are most comfortable etc., please?

I bought hold everything in pants from asda. Go from under the boob and shorts on the legs. Reasonable price.
I don't wear them any more as I think ive reached a point were they dont 'contain' all of me. I look better without.
They are also not the most comfortable things to wear.

Shapewear is by definition not comfortable as it's supposed to be tight and pull/hold you in. Depending on weather it's also an extra layer, so keep that in mind. I've read good things about shapermint, bought their bodys but decided comfort was more important than looks so never actually put them on. In past I had some from amazon, did a great job at holding you in (was a type of playsuit with added corset over waist), but wasn't comfortable (but worth it for me back then). If I'd go for one today (and I am sometimes tempted) I'd probably advise separate tank/top and bottoms as I found trying to re-do the finnicky buttons on crotch after a few drinks a pain and the alternative is getting completely undressed in a pub/restaurant/wedding venue!

I bought a shape wear slip from yours, it goes under your own bra and over your normal knickers. It is comfortable and not restricting and gives enough support to smooth over lumps and bumps but won't completely 'flatten' all problem areas, but is good under a dress, and you can go to the loo easily and it does not have vpl or muffin top etc. I'd recommended that type of shape wear rather than the knicker type.

Spanx used to do a good slip. They prob still do.

It's a flesh coloured tube with no waist band or hem (bit like the invisible pantyline knickers) and i wear it whenever i wear a dress or skirt which shows knicker lines and/or love handles. a bit too much It's not tight, i think it's a 14-16, it just smooths you down. They do a good range of sizes iirc.

I wouldn't recommend anything too tight OP. It's all got to go somewhere and when you squeeze it in once place it pops out at another!

I learned this when i wore a Jessica Rabbit style dress to a posh do. It needed something under it because it had a slight shimmer and showed everything - and i ended up virtually encased in shape-wear from the strapless bra to down to my knees. Couldn't risk going to the loo in case it all rolled up or down and i couldn't unroll the sausage again ! 😫 😂 It was worth it though - i looked goooood

I’m not particularly large but my tum needs a little help with some dresses. I second a control slip as mentioned up thread. I have these. You wear your own bra (or no bra depending on the dress) and unlike control knickers it’s not a struggle when you go for a wee or get lucky!

I've bought alot of shapwear over the years 🙈 the only brand that truly worked and kept working after washing is spanx for me. I've got the swimwear and jeans also and have been worth the initial expense

I still have nightmares about the flab being squished up under my armpits or like a swimming ring above the control knickers.
Not to mention being so desperate to get out of the control slip that I stripped off in a lay-by. I felt like I was suffocating.
Good luck OP!

Haha you've just reminded me of the time I went out in my shapewear after taking orlistat in my early 20s :) (if you've taken orlistat you will know lol)

I've got a body with short legs thingy from Shapely. I think many of these are just different brand name same pieces. It does nothing to support one's chest, but it takes a couple inches off my hips and flattens the stomach for sure. It's comfortable enough once on, though bit of a battle to get it on! There's an opening for seeing but haven't tried it out - I'm not sure about that as I usually use daily pantyliners. I don't like the sound it makes while I walk.

Sorry* *@mondaytosunday but this typo really made me laugh. That's pretty extreme shape-wear 😂😂
