To ask for your short story compilations for kids

Hi!

I only get to ready to my DS (9) once a week. We’ve just finished a book and because it’s so far in between I was thinking of seeing if he enjoys anthologies or short fiction. I LOVE short fiction and the variety in adult text you can get.

My problem is I can’t see anything that immediately grabs the attention. I don’t want all monster stories as such. He’s read all Harry potters, all dahls, lots of walliams, beast quests and we’ve done a few of the classic Oxford so Alice etc. He actually enjoyed wonderland and looking glass for their randomness (while I enjoyed all the hidden cyphers etc again) so quirky stuff also welcome but I cannot find anything at all that seems to have a nice variety for kids or isn’t too gendered either way (found a few around female led short stories but he may be less keen - only on the basis that they’ve marketed the art work exceptionally pink too!)

Any suggestions? Bonus points if I can get it at Waterstones or smiths today!

Joan Aiken, E Nesbit and Diana Wynne Jones all have wonderfully imaginative short story collections.
