To let dd buy bra without fitting

DontShow · 06/06/2024 16:28

Dd is 13 and at m&s right now. She wants to buy her second bra and I said ask the lady for a fitting. "No that's embarrassing"

Aibu not to send her the money unless she gets it fitted?

First bra was not needed at all, I just bought her a 28AA but she probably needs some advice now.....

M and S are awful. Get her to measure herself using the instructions for boob or bust website and buy her that size and the sizes up and down and around and then try them at home.

Good idea.... but size up and down of what band or cup? Eg for 30B, would it be 32B and 28B or 30A and 30C?

Yes m and s are bloody awful. Completely stuffed up my measurement. Glad I went elsewhere

pizzaHeart · 06/06/2024 16:39

just remind her to keep a receipt and then she will be able to try it on quietly at home and refund it if not suitable.
Tbh it’s what I did after fitting, I was not sure so bought and tried it on at home . One stayed and another went back.

Have a Google for Sister Sizes for bras.

M &s does nice bras but is shit at fitting. What your DD needs ideally is the kind of independent fitter who takes one look at you and tells you your size without even needing to measure.

Failing that Boob or Bust and try on a lot of bras in different styles and sizes. Key is to get the back right and remember cups may be bigger than you think.

For a 30B I think the sister sizes would be 28C and 32A. So you go down a back size but up a cup.

Can't she just take half a dozen bras into the fitting room and try them. If her boobs are not spilling out and there are not gaps around the cups she has probably found a decent fit. As she's growing it will change anyway.

GoingUphill · 06/06/2024 16:49

YABU. If she's not comfortable being fitted by a stranger then don't force her. I'm nearly 40 and I've never had a bra fitting. I just take a bunch into the changing room and buy the ones that fit. Or wear nice big stretchy crop tops instead of proper bras.

AnnaMagnani · 06/06/2024 16:55

Getting by without a bra fitting is fine when you aren't generously busy but for those of thus who are they are vital.

At a 28 A-C she probably doesn't need much by way of support. But if they grow you need a bra that fits just to stop them hurting.

Bra fitting is a bit like smears, embarrassing but for a lot of women essential.

I've never been measured for a bra.

brentwoods · 06/06/2024 17:23

Way to make it super embarrassing mum! Let her get on with it. Especially if she's as small busted at you say she is

WallaceinAnderland · 06/06/2024 17:28

Sounds a bit financially controlling. You will only pay for her bra if she has a fitting? She's body conscious and embarrassed. Don't make her do something with her body that she's uncomfortable with for the sake of money.

Don't go to M&S they don't measure you properly and their bra's are like a torture device, they told me I was 2 sizes too small than I actually was and I had constant aches in my neck and back from wearing the wrong size bra. I went to Debenhams at my friend's suggestion and they were fantastic and knew their their stuff and were very professional I was feeling shy but they made me feel comfortable and actually went and got me some lovely bra's to suit my size and showed me how to make sure my bra was fitted correctly and what style's give the most support their bra's are my favourite I highly reccomend them. They can be pricey but well worth the money and they often have multi pack bra's too for a decent price.

Honestly tell your DD the bra fitter's won't bat an eyelid they measure all kinds of women everyday but DD should know her correct size the wrong size bra isn't good for her.
