To be a bit worried

I was walking down a flight of stairs and missed a couple of steps. I landed on my feet but felt my stomach flip, it was a really uncomfortable feeling. I’m pregnant and just wondering if the baby felt this or if they will be ok. I don’t know if the stomach flipping is just a sensation or whether it is actually your organs moving about, so slightly worried it’s done some damage.

I’m thinking about booking a scan just to see but know there probably isn’t much point to that.

Pretty sure you’re fine!

Rickrolypoly · 06/06/2024 15:45

It doesnt sound like it would have been much of a trauma but monitor your movements and if they stop/reduce or if you are experiencing bleeding or any pain go to the hospital.
It's most likely fine though so try not to worry.

PiggieWig · 06/06/2024 15:46

I don’t think you need to worry. Sounds like you just jolted yourself. Your baby maybe did a little somersault but unless you have any worry signs I wouldn’t be concerned by this.

Needanewname42 · 06/06/2024 15:52

I agree with Piggiewig the baby maybe moved, remember they are in a ball of water.

BTW loads of women fall when pregnant due to changes in center of gravity. Rarely does it do any damage to the baby.

WePanickedAtTheDisco · 06/06/2024 16:03

As long as you didn’t land on your stomach (and even if you did, baby is well protected), I’m sure you’re both absolutely fine.

TMGM · 06/06/2024 17:08

I’m sure baby would be fine, but if you’re worried you can always call up the helpline you’ve been given and they will book you in to get looked at to be on the safe side, you don’t need to wait until you’re in pain or bleeding to call up if you’re concerned.

Yeah, I did just jolt myself, I think that’s a good way to describe it. Thank you

Edited

I haven’t had any movements yet as anterior placenta

Oh no, definitely my feet. Just had that horrible funny feeling in my stomach as the step wasn’t where I expected it to be

I hope so

I’ve had no pain or bleeding but just cannot stop worrying about it. If I ring triage they’ll say to go in and it will take hours to be seen, so I don’t really want to do that either. Just wish I knew everything was fine

If you're at all worried you must phone and discuss. Your baby can't speak for itself so you just advocate

I can’t tell how much of it is just my anxiety and disproportionate reaction to something others wouldn’t think twice about, that’s all

I don't think you need to worry. I fell on my bum in snow when I was pregnant and was fine.
Obviously if you have any pain, bleeding or reduced movements contact your midwife asap

That's fine just ring them they'll talk you though

idontknowaboutyou · 06/06/2024 18:34

It's most likely fine but it's totally reasonable to ring for advice. I probably would.

PurpleBugz · 06/06/2024 18:37

How pregnant are you? Far enough along that you can feel movements? If not far enough along to feel movements and you haven't had pain or bleeding then it's unlikely you have hurt baby it's nicely cushioned in there. If you have a big enough bump and can feel regular movements normally then pay attention to the movements you have now and get urgent help if they reduce. If baby still moving fine then try not to worry. I got punched in my stomach by a kid when I was pregnant and had reduced movements went got checked and my child was/is fine. If you think you are going to stress about this for more than a few days then get yourself a private scan they are not that expensive just to set your mind at ease because stress hormones are not good for baby xx

Ty. I’m 17 weeks. Anterior placenta so not felt baby move yet, or not consistently anyway. I think I’ll try go for a private scan tomorrow, that’s a good idea

When I was pregnant with my DS1, I slipped on some ice and went flying hard on to my back. I was about 24 weeks when I did it. I went in to the hospital and they checked me over, and my DS was fine. He’s a 6ft 13-year-old now 😄.

Your baby will be well protected in there and it was only a little jolt and not a nasty fall or anything. You can still go to the hospital to get checked over and have your mind put at ease.
