Lymecycline making skin worse

Upsettyspaghetti · 06/06/2024 08:58

I have posted before about DD (15) stubborn acne. We are now in week 2 of Lymecycline. AIBU to think that it's making skin worse though? I'm hoping it's a temporary purge. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks all!

My partner is on this. The doctor said he needs 8 weeks at a time to see any improvement so it might be too early for you to tell.

I was on this a couple of years ago combined with Epiduo cream. I definitely had a big outbreak (and awful dryness from the cream) for at least the first 4-6 weeks. I really wanted to quit it but online forums kept saying to persevere so I did. I'm so glad I did. It really did improve. Obviously I can't guarantee it will be the same for your DD but I wish I'd done it years ago. Instead I suffered with acne until my late 30s. I still get the odd spot now but it's never come back anywhere near the level it was.

I took lymecycline for acne and it completely cleared, it took about 6 months to disappear. It didn’t reappear either.

It's a purge. Ds now on his second 12 week round and his skin is perfect. But there was a purging phase.

Thanks everyone that's good to hear. We will persevere. We have another 6 weeks so we'll see how it goes!

Yeah GP thanked us for waiting the full 12 weeks first time round as many parents ring much earlier to say 'it's not having any effect'. It took a while - ds was also using epiduo cream

I’m allergic to it, needless to say it was of no help.

Hello I was wondering if you could give me an update on the progress on your DD's acne on this treatment. My son has the same and it seems to be getting worse after 2 months on epiduo and 2 weeks on lymecycline. Many thanks 😊

Hi , it is a lot better thank you and we finished the course last month. She has started the combined pill though which I suspect has helped too. Obviously not an option for boys...
