To think my way of mopping is the correct way

My way of mopping:
Step1. add desired cleaning solution to mop bucket and then fill mop bucket with hot/boiling water.
Step2. Get mop, and submerge mophead in solution, wring as much as possible and start mopping a small area.
step3. Repeat step 2 until all the floor has been cleaned.

DH's way of mopping:
Step 1. Add desired cleaning solution to mop bucket and then fill mop bucket with hot/boiling water
Step 2. Get mop, and submerge mophead in solution, do not wring mop but instead slosh a small amount of water on the floor.
step 3. Repeat step 2 until every row of tile has its own little pool of water.
step 4. Using the pool of water, mop the respective row of tiles.
step 5. Repeat step 4 until all the floor has been cleaned.

I just feel like the way DH does it means that he ends up cleaning with a cold water which maybe might make the floor have soapy residues and perhaps not clean as well.

Whereas my way means the whole floor is cleaned with very hot water as the mop is being dipped back into a bucket of hot water as you go along.

YANBU: your way is correct/cleans better

Am I the only one who has never given a second's thought to mopping technique? I've no idea how my DP mops. I'm pretty hazy on how I mop.

I haven’t either. I really don’t care how he does it. He mopped entire decks in the Navy so I presume he is capable.

Have we discovered... Mopgate? FWIW I think you are right @Peonii !

Ok so technically your way is the right way… however, if your husbands way is causing damage/danger then please let him have his own method. I’m ND and I have odd ways of doing household tasks that mean I can (1) actually motivate myself do them due to my ADHD (2) they can occasionally spark a bit of joy for me.

The right way is whichever way the person doing it prefers.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2024 11:39

Both methods are wrong. The water goes into the bucket first then the detergent is added, otherwise the water gets much too soapy and the floor needs more rinsing.

But I don't really care as long as it's clean.

ya both bu

dunk mop in warm water (& detergent)
leave the mop quite wet and mop a small area.

rinse mop and squeeze out as much water a possible and mop up the excess water from previously mopped small area.

repeat until whole floor is clean.
