To ask why some posts get no answers WHATSOEVER??

So I’m sure I’m not the only one, but I’ve posted twice in the last few days, completely different questions in the appropriate forum for the question and got zero replies. Am I doing anything wrong ? Would changing my wording help ? Or are my questions inherently unanswerable? 🤔

OP posts:
TwattyMcFuckFace · 05/06/2024 22:08

I don't know, can you link to the threads?

soupfiend · 05/06/2024 22:09

Me too. No one ever answers my queries. I think they're too boring. One of my threads was about belts. I mean belts for goodness sake!

I need to develop some drama and chaos, perhaps about inheritance or an argument with a school. Seems to get people going.

loropianalover · 05/06/2024 22:10

It’s just luck I imagine. Maybe the few people who would be interested in the post weren’t online that day, maybe you posted at a time where it was ‘quiet’ on the forum…

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/06/2024 22:10

Is your thread title clear enough? “Can you help” in chat for example is going to get lost before it gets replies.

BobnLen · 05/06/2024 22:12

It's maybe because it's in AIBU or Chat and drops off quickly, if you post within a subject that it's relevant to it will stay nearish the top and people will visit that subject and maybe reply.

AutumnFroglets · 05/06/2024 22:17

A lot of people click/refresh the Active or Trending links instead of going into a specific forum. Your thread could drop to the end of the list within two minutes. Every once in a while I click the Last Hour link and it brings up mostly threads that I have never seen in Active. Mumsnet logarithms are weird.

Can you link your threads here?

Feelingmentallyunsettled · 06/06/2024 09:18

I've done a search and seen your 2 recent threads.
I'd read your one asking for ideas about storage solutions when you posted it. I know it was a simple sounding question but when I thought about it any answer I could give would have been long and involved and I really didnt have time to think and write. And I think that's the same with some unanswered threads: it takes time and thought to answer and sometimes it's easier not to bother

As regards your other thread I don't remember seeing that one when it was posted. But I absolutely know nothing about contour so couldn't have answered it anyway. And there are quite a few threads outwith my experience or knowledge so I just can't answer. And that's probably the same for others.

I do feel bad for OPs when their threads are unanswered but sometimes feel any contribution I could make wouldn't be helpful to them.

Durdledore · 06/06/2024 09:20

Can you link to your previous threads here? We can try to help x

GrandHighPoohbah · 06/06/2024 09:28

Sometimes it depends on the board, the timing and the thread title. As PP have said, at really busy times, a boring sounding thread on a fast moving board will drop off active very quickly.

BobnLen · 06/06/2024 10:36

I found your storage thread in Chat, OP, it may do better in the Housekeeping board

Bananalanacake · 06/06/2024 10:44

Have you got a lazy OH or had a row with a friend about money, those get a few replies

GalacticalFarce · 06/06/2024 10:52

Storage solutions? Talk about your mil interfering in your storage solutions or your dp arguing with you about it. You'll get plenty of replies.

ClemmyTine · 06/06/2024 11:09

I'm smiling because the op hasn't answered any of the answers 🤣

TwattyMcFuckFace · 06/06/2024 11:24

@ClemmyTine , me too! 😂

FuelCell · 09/06/2024 14:19

The storage solutions one was bordering on unanswerable (or at least very time consuming to answer fully, which I wouldn't do considering a good % of posts the OP never returns after the OP).

That post in particular needed to be more specific and give details of the issues you are having/the space you have available. Tackle one type of thing/area at a time.

I'm quite into storage, and have a lot of solutions but I wouldn't have known where to start without asking for more info from you.

FuelCell · 09/06/2024 14:21

Ah and now just seen you started this thread four days ago and haven't been back. You come across as a time-waster.

JudyP · 09/06/2024 14:49

Me too! Not one reply in style and beauty - and I know it's not very stylish but it's clothes related! 😀

Maybe other threads fill the active posts.

I've noticed people asking on some posts if the op has made a post about that before.

Or you can try the online failsafe of posting an incorrect statement rather than asking a question .

Scissorsisters · 09/06/2024 15:20

Back in the day, there was a button that brought up unanswered threads. If I was bored I'd answer them all!

Sparkletastic · 09/06/2024 16:29

In the earlier days of Mumsnet some posters would make a daily effort to trawl for and answer unanswered posts. Them were the days <misty eyed jumpers for goalposts smile>
