Birds only want oats/rice ?

I started feeding birds in my garden. It started when I gave a pigeon some left over rice. After a few days, I gave them plain dry oats when I don’t have rice. The plate is usually empty by mid day.
I was at a pet store the other day and they had bird feeding grain. I bought a large 10kg bag. My birds don’t want this food!! Why??

Same reason I only want to eat hazelnut praline Milka....doesn't mean it's good for me!

Don't think I've ever fed grain to the local birds. They only eat peanuts, suet balls and sunflower hearts here. The pigeons hoover up from the smaller birds. You may find by putting other food out you attract other birds. It may take them a few days to discover the new food source though.

Hearts of sunflower here too!

They all love sunflower seeds. They also like wheat. Rice comes third to the first two.

If you put out these three together, pigeons will actually eat the sunflower seeds first, then the wheat and last the rice!
