I have to go from sussex to Birmingham for two days for a work trip. The cheapest return train ticket , which involves specifying now the times of arrival and departure, is £136.50. If I want to actually have flexibility on the times I need on the day, it's £254 for a second class return. That's actually insane. I'm paying less to fly to turkey next month. Bearing in mind this is a two and a half hour trip, including changes, I'm not taking the night sleeper to Scotland.
Of course I'm now going to drive and save at least £80 and up to £180 , even factoring in the parking.
Just madness

I was enjoying £1 bus fares on Sunday, as were many other people.
