Invisalign money grabbing tactic?

I have just finished treatment and collected my retainers this weekend. I was only given 1 set but on the packet it says "1 of 3" , and my ortho charges £400 for another set. Is this standard practice? How much does your ortho charge for new retainers?

I feel like this is a money grabbing tactic from my ortho, one which you don't know to ask about when signing up for treatment... I'm so annoyed! I have to wear them full time for the first 6 months so surely its inevitable I'll need a new set in 6 months... but for £400, after spending thousands on the treatment itself?!

Have you checked it's not a mistake?

I was given three sets when I finished.

Cucumbering · 03/06/2024 06:21

email and ask if there’s been a mistake as you paid 400 for one set when the bag said 3.

can you order direct from the makers or find a cheaper version?

TerfTalking · 03/06/2024 06:26

I also
got three sets together with a catch up about how I should just use one set until they didn’t feel firm any longer or had wear and tear before changing them.

Cindy1802 · 03/06/2024 15:32

Nope, not a mistake. It seems I managed to pick the only provider that keeps 2 of the 3 sets to try and make an extra £800 from me!! I'm fuming

Absolutely not normal - those specialist Invisalign retainers come in a pack of 3 for £400/£500 if I remember correctly from DD. Your orthodontist is a scammer and I’d be promptly making a complaint. If not sorted then report to private healthcare ombudsman

stressedespresso · 03/06/2024 15:35

By the way, you own the retainers - they have no right to be keeping them from you and I’d make this very clear

I recently finished Invisalign and felt like my dentist made up prices on the spot. I'd been certain retainers were included in the initial deal I'd responded to but she said no. Then she said it must have meant an essix retained was included but not the more expensive type. I ended up speaking with the manager if the practice. The dentist then said okay, 1 set of the more expensive retainers. In the end I did get 3 sets included.

I didn’t have this with mine, I was given 3 sets, but my orthodontist said we could always use the scans to order any extra retainers through a cheaper supplier, it didn’t have to be Invisalign

Proudbitch · 03/06/2024 15:43

Yep I also got all 3 sets!!

I wonder if there’s a main Invisalign contact you can go through. I was advised to use one of my trays for whenever I use whitener then another pair for daily use and the last pair as a spare

Who do you reckon I should make a complaint to? Do you reckon invisalign themselves would care or do they leave it up to the providers to do as they please?!

How can I prove they are mine? Sorry if that's a silly question . Surely they'll just say not til I "pay" for them

That is not normal it should be part of the upfront package

Cindy1802 · 03/06/2024 19:51

Just found this on the invisalign website... I should at least have gotten 1 spare pair?
