To ask about Trump’s voice/accent? It seems strange to me!

Curious to see if anyone else also thinks that Donald Trump’s voice and accent sound a little odd. I don’t often watch speeches or interviews that he gives, especially not in the last few years since he hasn’t been president, but often read about him in the papers.

He gave an interview the other day to Fox News - unsurprisingly - and his voice and accent just sounded strange. This is the clip of the Fox interview: https://www.foxnews.com/video/6354159042112

I think Trump’s accent has changed quite a lot over the last few decades, if you compare clips of him speaking now to say the 1980s or 90s. I know people’s voices change as they get older, but I didn’t think accents changed as much (particularly if you still live in the same town/area/country you were brought up in, as Trump has).

I don’t really understand why his voice and accent have changed so much - I don’t get how his current accent would appeal to voters at all.

He also says ‘China’ in a really weird way (so it sounds like ‘Chaaaiii-nah), which actually sounds racist to me, almost as if he’s imitating how a Chinese person might say it.

I’ve read that he’s changed his speech patterns so he sounds a bit like a preacher when he speaks at political rallies. I can understand that, as that helps to bring the crowds along with him and to engage them, but I don’t get the accent thing! Or maybe it’s just me and his accent hasn’t changed?

Sounds same to me. It might have changed over decades, I suppose.

Is this because there is speculation whether Joe Biden is an imposter? Trump is far more of a public figure: harder to fake IMO

LakieLady · 02/06/2024 18:16

I think he sounds as though he wears dentures that don't fit properly.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/06/2024 18:16

There's so much weird about that utter freak show nut job, just add it to the list Grin

What do you mean by Biden being an imposter? He’s been a political figure for a long time, basically the same amount of time that Trump has been a public figure for.

Maybe look it up.
There has been considerable commentary for the past four years about whether the person you see is the real Joe Biden or an imposter. Lots on the detached/attached earlobe theme.

He is a very damaged man who is always adopting a persona.

In public, he's just acting whatever persona he thinks works. His voice and speech patterns mirror that.

This. He is a hollow man. There's no real him in there so he's just playing a part, like an actor, which changes to suit the occasion and mood.

I can understand that he would want to sound like one of those (absolute wackjob) preachers.

He actually looks healthier and younger and calmer than previous. Suspect he’s had a lot more rest and recuperation time lately.

He’s still lying through his teeth though. He’s a very good and cunning actor.

The theory you’re describing has been debunked many times - it’s worrying that you believe it. I think it’s dangerous and irresponsible to promote conspiracy theories on Mumsnet - unless there is anywhere you can link to that actually proves it’s true?

Below are 4 sources that disprove the theory:

Viral Tweets Baselessly Claim Biden Is A Body Double Wearing A Mask

Conspiracy theorists on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, have gone viral with the claim Joe Biden is actually just a guy wearing a mask.

This is also a pretty comprehensive explanation of why the Biden imposter theory is false @Taciturn - https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL1N2LK22A/.
