Went out with dad and didn't invite mum

My mum and dad have been apart for 10 years but still get on well and I'm very close to both of them. I'm off on holiday next week with my DH and DS. I thought it might be nice to meet my dad for some lunch today as I won't see him again until we're back. Me and my mum agreed we'd all pop over this weekend at some point.

I mentioned to mum on the phone that I'd been out for dinner with dad and she went into a sulk about not being invited.

Couple of things here

  1. I probably spend more time with my mum than my dad
  1. My mum has told me she doesn't really like going out to eat
  1. It honestly didn't occur to me to invite her.

Was I being unreasonable to just ask my dad?

Of course not

No. She has FOMO. Expect a grilling at the weekend!

Itsallsostressful · 31/05/2024 18:53

No you weren't unreasonable. I tie myself in knots over family stuff all the time !

comedycentral · 31/05/2024 18:55

Of course not, would she like you to ask your Dad along every time the two of you meet?

QuickFinish · 31/05/2024 19:10

That's unfair and childish of your Mum. Is it typical of her?

DinaofCloud9 · 31/05/2024 19:13

No and it's not fair of your mum to act like that.

Ex and I are similar to your parents in that we get on well and occasionally do stuff together but I'd never make my kids feel bad for spending time with him without me there.
