Why am I so bloated? I'm 5 foot and 47kg

I'm 32, never had children. I'm pretty slender overall. My stomach feels very bloated for the past few months. I'm not sure if it's fat or bloating, but my stomach does feel very tight and pressured, even after small, healthy meals, leading me to think it's the latter. My diet is very good.

My height is 5 feet and I weigh 47kg, so am generally a healthy weight. I've recently had a trans-vaginal ultrasound for an unrelated issue, so I assume anything scary like ovarian cancer/cysts would have been picked up on that? Plz help!

I had an external ultrasound when they wanted to scan my ovaries, so it might be worth just chatting to your GP to rule it out.

its probably just down to food intolerance or something though. Are you bloated all the time or just part of the day?

Healthy food can be a bugger for IBS - leeks, mushrooms and most pulses are pretty bad triggers for me to puff up like a balloon!

Try keeping a food diary with symptoms so you can try to eliminate stuff as you suspect a link?

Get a food allergies / intolerances test.
Eat fibre with every meal.
Drink plenty of water.
Intermittent fasting.

Do you have other conditions like IBS or acid reflux?
might be food intolerance, stress related?

JamSandle · 31/05/2024 18:48

Do you have PCOS?

LuciferRising · 31/05/2024 19:16

I get this with IBS. But, my stomach is flat in the morning, and then bloats depending on food. Not eating makes it the worst.

I had/have this and like you am slim. I was really concerned and saw my GP to rule out ovarian cancer. They checked a CA125 which was luckily low however also checked my thyroid and I was off the scale hypothyroid. My digestion had completely slowed down due to my thyroid.
I'm now medicated which has helped massively however I also cut food triggers out. I never eat bread or pasta as they bloat me like crazy. I also switched my milk to Arla lactose free which helped loads too.
I would see your GP to ask for bloods and then maybe think about food triggers.

Do you get any other symptoms? Anaemia, mouth ulcers, miscarriages, abdo pain?

Thanks all. I don't have PCOS or coeliac, nor IBS as far as I'm aware. I have felt a bit constipated in recent months (sorry tmi!!!). But I'm bloated like this even when I'm not constipated? It's a teensy bit better in the morning but not by much.

I do already drink a lot of water (2ish litres daily) and often end up doing the 16-8 intermittent fast anyway!

I'm guessing any ovarian issues etc would have been detected on the internal ultrasound I had. But I'll go to the GP anyway...

In the meantime have ordered some Symprove (fancy probiotic).

All very frustrating as just feels like I can't enjoy food anymore.

Try going teetotal for at least 3 months.

Make an appointment with a Dietician.
