To worry about not washing new clothes before wearing them?

I usually wash everything that we buy new. I haven’t washed the dress I’m wearing today, got it from Sainsbury’s a few months ago.

Is it that bad? 😅

I don't... I have enough washing to do!

Countthesheep · 30/05/2024 23:03

I never wash new clothes.

nimski · 30/05/2024 23:04

Never wash new clothes

Eyesopenwideawake · 30/05/2024 23:05

No

Comtesse · 30/05/2024 23:05

What exactly do you think is going to happen to you?? Complete non event!

TitusMoan · 30/05/2024 23:05

What could be bad about it?

WinterMorn · 30/05/2024 23:06

What is it with this washing new clothes thing? I had never heard of it until I came on here!

Notimeforaname · 30/05/2024 23:06

I never wash new clothes.

TitusMoan · 30/05/2024 23:05

What could be bad about it?

The dyes used on the clothes. Maybe I’m talking myself into worrying about a non issue though

Yes, but what is bad about the dyes?

brunettemic · 30/05/2024 23:23

Wait…there’s people out there that was clothes before they’ve even worn them?!

PurpleChrayn · 30/05/2024 23:24

What were you thinking??

You will definitely perish.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 30/05/2024 23:27

I know people tend to wash clothes for babies but never washed anything for myself.

WakeMeUpBeforeYouPogo · 30/05/2024 23:28

Totally pointless and wasteful doing this, even for babies.

GandalfStormcrow · 30/05/2024 23:28

Yes, you should. You don’t know where the dress has been stored, or where it’s been, or the chemicals used in manufacturing, or who’s tried it on before you . . .

modgepodge · 30/05/2024 23:31

But brand new clothes are the only time I wear something which has been ironed…😂

i don’t even wash stuff for babies 🤷‍♀️ nothing bad has happened yet.

i do wash charity shop buys though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/05/2024 23:32

I would never do this, even with second hand things unless they smell funny. Towels are the only thing I would wash before using.

🙋 I've got no idea which sweaty person tried it on in the shop and put it back on the shelf before I bought it. Or who sneezed and wiped heir hands down it accidentally while trying it on. Or how many times it was dropped on the floor and picked back up again, dragging floor dirt with it. Or any other multitude of reasons!

WellThatsNice · 30/05/2024 23:34

I just got a new dress and the chemical smell on it is overwhelming- no way I’d wear that without washing first.

Ciderlout · 30/05/2024 23:34

Never have I ever…. Washed new clothes before wearing them!

NewName24 · 30/05/2024 23:35

I'm not sure which way to vote / which way is BU or NBU,

but I never wash new things before I wear them, and I had never heard of it before I read on MN that some people do this.

Some people have sensitive skin, atopic dermatitis, other problems. Why risk a flare-up if you can reduce the risk?

That's on top of other good reasons cited above.

I wash most things, but I wouldn't worry about not having done it.

RandomButtons · 30/05/2024 23:40

I do whenever possible but because I swear I got ringworm from trying clothes on.

Yes, you will probably keel over at any moment.
