name change just in case it goes wrong?
I don't mean when people want to hide their identity for fear of outing themselves when they are talking deep and meaningful. but when it is just in case people don't agree. I admit i loose interest when I read the op and it is a question and says I have namechanged.....

I have namechanged to answer this thread. Do you have too much time on your hands?

bubbles4 · 05/04/2008 22:04

lol you have made me laugh for the first time in two very stressful weeks ,thank you idfraud, sorry 2shoes for the hijack. As for namechanging is it not a bit of a copout if it all goes wrong,a namechanger has just upset me on the thread about the women who got run over by a train on the level crossing, name changing so she can make accusations about a dead women,if she is so sure of her facts why doesnt she use her usual mame.

2shoes · 05/04/2008 22:08

i Just saw that and think it is childish. she is safe in the fact that no one knows who she is and she can just make unpleasent comments. nasty.
It wasn't that I was talking about tbh when I started this buit is shows how name changing can be used for bad reasons.

OP posts:
SlartyBartFast · 05/04/2008 22:09

does seem unusual to change for that.

bubbles4 · 05/04/2008 22:15

It is a copout because now she can go back to her usual posting name without any hasssle,it makes me suspicous of name changers which is a shame as i realise some have genuine reasons for changing.

southeastastra · 05/04/2008 22:17

i hate it when people namechange for anything usually, but can see why they would in that case

sushistar · 05/04/2008 22:18

i never ever namechange. I am me.

random · 05/04/2008 22:19

I can never work out whos name changed anyway and dunno what this threads all about.. most of it goes over my head on here anyway [thick emoticon]

IdentityFraud · 05/04/2008 22:29

I like my new name.

bubbles4 · 05/04/2008 22:32

I like it too but are you going to tell us who you were?

IdentityFraud · 05/04/2008 22:34

Not much point - too much of a lurker, no one would recognise me.

Well keep it then so we will recognise it in future and I like you sense of humour so please post a bit nore.

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 22:39

I don't care and never did, but on another board I used to post on, people got so worked up about it. There were kangaroo courts accusing new posters of misuse of the apostrophe in exactly the same way as a previous poster who'd been bullied off the board... all madness.

Willjustcallmyselfthisforamo · 05/04/2008 22:44

Totally agree yes

kerryk · 05/04/2008 22:46

i cant namechange

so i dont have that problem

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 22:49

Why can't you Kerryk?

kerryk · 05/04/2008 22:54

no idea, can only think i must have upset someone in someway but cant see how. none of my posts have been deleted or anything.

only noticed yesterday when i wanted to change name about a personal problem, my name on here has to many clues to who i am if anyone in my area was to read it so i thought i would play it safe.

because i could not name change i actually had to talk it through with someone in rl

Whizzz · 05/04/2008 23:00

anyone can namechange - the only problem is if your name & password don't match up with whats registered on MN (case sensitive)

2shoes · 05/04/2008 23:01

why couldn't you name change? surely that is a good reason for doing it.

I do have a PMT name i change to. but i sign 2shoes and keep my profile. it just stops me posting on serious stuff.

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 23:06

how do you do it actually??

Rose99 · 05/04/2008 23:11

I try to name change at least every 2 months in order to not get identified in rl (I seem to give quite a lot of personal information away without meaning to). It does stop you building up a "following" on here though.

i have namechanged before so know i am doing it right but when i type in the name i want to change to and type save it comes up as kerryk in the box not the name i typed in.

i know its not that i am picking a name already used because if i was to try and change to 2shoes it would come up in red letters that the name was taken.

i must have done something terrible one night after a few to many and cant remember what it was.

expatinscotland · 05/04/2008 23:19

Considering that MN has taken one of its sanctiminous bents of late, YABU.
