18th birthday party

So my DD turns 18 in July - she is wanting a party at home - we live in a small village with around 7 close neighbours. My plan is to go and see each neighbour and explain about the party - it will be a week day but in the school holidays. The party will be around 25 kids and will finish at 11pm. There will be proper adults present the whole time. Are we being unreasonable to host this? Thanks

Fine. I'd probably prefer a Friday or Saturday night as a neighbour but finishes by 11pm is totally fine

cannonballz · 27/05/2024 20:50

What is your question?

Are we being unreasonable to host a party on a week night!

no, I am surprised you are asking! Nice of you to tell the neighbours though

With an 11pm finish YANBU (as long as the teens do actually go home at that point and don't hang around in the street until the early hours)

Well they are likely to be outside if the weather is nice (I hope it is to save my house……) so it may impact our neighbours more……..they are mostly lovely though!!

Seems fine to me. I wouldn’t mind if I was a neighbour, if I had advance warning and it was a one off.

Unless someone posts it on social media and 75 hells angels turn up, but I don’t think that happens in reality.

They will definitely go home - tiny village and parents will have to collect - no buses etc

I would think you were being a bit U not doing it on a Friday or Saturday tbh. If people have to be up for work they may be in bed well before 11pm. Why can’t you do it at the weekend? You’re giving people enough notice if you’re planning it now.

Only 1 neighbour actually works - others all retired - does this make a difference. Specific date is important and it’s a week day…….

Very unlikely and we will be around to begin with then other adults staying to check all ok - we will be in the area and could be home in 5 mins

As long as you tell them music will end at 11 and they'll go home then that's fine. As long as you stick to it

This will definitely happen and be stuck to

One of our neighbours had an after prom party on a Tuesday. It went on until 2am and they were screaming. 11pm would have been very reasonable!

This definitely won’t happen - we will be back before 11 and all kids will be picked up or inside if parents are running late - detached house so definitely no noise after 11

I personally know quite a few Angles, I'd take 75 of them over 75 18 Yr olds any day! 😅

But to answer OPs question, totally reasonable. It's a 1 off, notice given & will be done by 11.
I'd be absolutely fine with this & appreciate the heads up. I hope your DD has a great evening!

Thank you - I am hoping my lovely neighbours will feel the same!

From what you describe that's fine but I do question if this is really ok for your dd - who wants parents supervising?

For my DDs we went out and returned 10 minutes before the agreed finish time, they never messed up as that would be the end of parties at ours!

We will be there at the beginning to say hello (we know most of her friends…..) then go away - we will be a 5 min walk away and not come back until 5 mins before 11pm - there will be some slightly older lads (19 & 20) supervising - they all went to school together so know each other - does that sound ok?
