How do you know if you’re good or bad at your job

I’ve never had a 1 to 1 or any sort of direction from my manager. Initially he was very complimentary and gave me a bonus, but now it seems that quietly nothing I do is right as he’s always pissy with me, but no standard has been set with me and nothing has been raised with me. It’s really impacting my confidence

Ask your manager for some constructive feedback?

Ask your manager for some constructive feedback?

I have in the past and he hasn’t given me anything to work with, or the feedback wasn’t applicable. For example he misread emails I forwarded to him from a senior manager, and he gave advice on the incorrect instructions although everything he needed to know was sent to him and I was working with the same information he had.

Mine tells me. We have a weekly ‘catch up’ and talk frequently.

Yours sounds like a poor manager. Do you have HR? Is there a formal review / management process that should be followed?

I don’t think the manager sounds very good at his job! How long have you worked there?

settingss · 27/05/2024 23:15

Coming up to a year, I think I just need a new job. My manager is very casual/unprofessional eg he calls himself anti-corporate and catch ups with him are more focused on his personal drama as opposed to work. I’ve tried to “manage upwards” but he’s just not taking the hint

You don't work at a paper supplier in Slough do you??

That sounds like terrible management

Our manager does a general oh well done everyone when we have team meetings , last 1-1 was nearly 2 years ago.

we have more feedback from one of our seniors and our teacher than we do from any management. Too wrapped up in their own wee worlds to noice what is and what isn’t happening in the centre.

the children’s feedback tells me I’m doing a good job.

If your face fits and you are liked you are then perceived as being good at your job .

That’s the thing - I don’t think my face fits anymore.
