He puts her through a lot.

Probably a bit late for that

Bewareofthisonetoo · 27/05/2024 17:15

Why isn’t Mamillius resurrected too?
Always puzzled me.

Understatement of the quincentury.

LoreleiG · 27/05/2024 17:26

Thought the same about Helena and Demetrius tbh.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 27/05/2024 17:34

I hate The Winters Tale. I studied it for a level and still get unreasonably angry that it was such a stupid story. We could have spent 3 months studying one of the actually decent Shakespeare plays!

Good point. If Mamillius was back then I could sort of see sticking around. As it is I’d be getting Perdita and Florizel to hide me somewhere.

I could never see why it was a happy ending when Claudio married Hero in Much Ado. Screw that judgemental asshole.

YankSplaining · 27/05/2024 17:44

Don’t know, but I think it was a little unreasonable to not mention in the thread title that you’re talking about characters from “The Winter’s Tale.” I studied English literature and took a whole year of Shakespeare courses, but that was 15+ years ago and I had to figure out from comments what this thread was about.

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 27/05/2024 17:49

YANBU! Absolute bastard.

Fair point. I’ve just watched the ballet version recently so it was fresh in my mind.

Sometimes it's fun not to have everything spoonfed to us. Making it obviously about Shakespeare in the title takes away the amusement of treating H and L like contestants on Love Island or a couple from the MN Relationships Board.

Making the topic clear isn’t “spoonfeeding,” FFS. 🙄

When referring to characters from Shakespeare, it rather is. If you can't keep up or read a thread, there's alway Google.

I thought the way OP launched straight in was part of the charm and humour of the thread.

You don’t have to reply to everything. 🤷‍♀️

PurpleBrocadePeacock · 27/05/2024 20:26

I think Paulina got to tell it to him.

Leontes is going to come on AIBU and ask ‘aibu to fire my cleaner after she went totally apeshit at me today? My exw died and the last thing I needed was abuse from my household staff’.

I studied The Winters Tale over 30 years ago. I'm not sure ' Hermione and Leontes could be about anything else. If I thought it was about some characters on Love Island, I would have scrolled past.

As I said, I studied Shakespeare around fifteen years ago; it’s not one of his best-remembered plays, either.

Surely people in the UK, of all places, are aware that there’s more than one Hermione in the world. I’m an American, and my first thought was that maybe they were characters from some television show we don’t have in this country (Greek immigrants on Coronation Street?), or some couple that’s famous in Europe but not over here.

Anyway, done with this thread now. Carry on. 😉

Nah, I just thought you were unreasonably pissy about what was clearly a light hearted and funny thread about something the OP had been watching.

Her thread tickled me. You came on to piss on her chips rather than scroll on by.

LilianaVikavanovich · 27/05/2024 21:21

Watched the live stream of the ballet at the cinema last week ( loved it )
Yes , she should have LTB , but I’d have stayed with a man who can dance like that ( even if I had been pretending to be a statue for 16 years )

No, I’m fine with OP. I said my thing, said I had a fair point, and that was the end of it, until you jumped with your snotty, condescending tone. Now quit continuing this and let her have her light-hearted and funny thread.

She deserved so, so much better.

At least Benedict was fun, so Beatrice will have a laugh.

Saw the ballet version last week at the ROH. Mind-blowing. The portrayal of jealousy by Leontes was absolutely spot-on for anyone she had ever felt jealousy.
