To find the noise of gum chewing disgusting?

I've been working in a library recently, and I find people sitting around me chewing gum so triggering. The sounds of chewing and spit swilling about put me on edge. Do you find it anti-social?

I also find the nail-biting and mouth noises associated with it triggering. I do think it's just me getting sensory overwhelmed but I'm curious to know does anyone else feels the same.

Sounds like you have misophonia.

No, it doesn’t bother me.

I’m sure you do things that annoy other people, we all do.

No but I get like this with whistling and sniffing. It's misphonia.
I feel irrationally angry when I hear people whistle and have to remove myself from the space.

I don’t notice it and am not bothered by it but I chew gum a lot and it does make me anxious that it can be viewed as disgusting or annoying etc by other people. I worry a lot that I am absent mindedly chewing with my mouth open or chewing noisily/ visibly and how other people might perceive me as I have a couple of friends who find gum disgusting so I’ve always been a bit paranoid since they voiced it (not at me, just in general conversation). I don’t think you are alone in feeling like that about gum.

Gum chewing is grim. I would be asking them to leave as the library is a quit place.

Can I ask why do you chew gum? I've never gotten into it. Does it help you focus or anything like that?

Nah I dont think I have a right to ask them to leave. Like a pervious poster said, I'm sure I do things that annoy people in too.

I think it’s because I am sensory seeking, as a child I was always chewing on pen lids or my sleeves and my nails etc. I have autism and adhd which I think is maybe why I seem to have a need to have my mouth doing something more than others, I do have chewellery and stuff I can chew on at home but it isn’t very socially appropriate in public as an adult. If I feel anxious or overstimulated or dysregulated chewing gum definitely helps and yes, I think it does help me focus in situations like when I’m driving or if I have to sit and write a report etc.
