Lost car keys and taxi company

DD went out last night and ended up losing her car keys.
rang the cab company and she left them in the taxi.
they have said she can’t collect them from the cab office, she has to pay £65 for them to drop the, to our house.

AIBU to not know this is a thing?

she gave them a good description of the keys and key chain.

How far away is the cab office ? If she can’t get there I would get a cab to the office it would be cheaper

I can drive her to collect them now. They have confirmed they are in the office.

They are taking the piss.
They might be arguing that they're trying to protect the legitimate key owner, but all that happens when they deliver them back is that they know where the house keys belong (and they may have taken copies).

I would notify the police. They can't withhold your property.

Huh? How odd? Surely you just drive there and they say here you go and she says thank you so much. Why would they make this difficult? Just trying to make some extra cash?! So bizarre and frustrating for you

It's theft, they have her property. They can have whatever policies they want but they have her property and are refusing to return it, tell them next step will be the police

Take the v5 and some insurance documents.. They key will tell them the brand of car.

They can’t take copies as it’s not a blade, it’s touch, keyless go so thankfully not an issue but agree it’s worrying knowing where the car is.
