Friend licking fingers

I was at a friend's last night for a meal. We were both in the kitchen, chatting and having a glass of wine. She would absolutely not let me help despite my protests. So I sat and sipped my wine and observed.

I wish I hadn't. She licked her fingers constantly. I couldn't quite believe it.
I'm by no means a hygiene freak, but I would never dream of doing that when I'm prepping food.
Aibu to be pretty grossed out by this and not enjoy my meal for thinking about it? Would you have commented?

Yeah that’s gross! Depends how close you are. A really old friend it might be possible to say, “Nooo don’t lick your fingers!”

That is 🤢🤢🤢🤢 I would struggle to eat anything that she’d prepared after that. To be fair I have worked in food hygiene all my life so I’m very fussy!

It's obviously a habit, which is ok if you are eating for just yourself but YANBU, that would have me cringing.
You should have a clean tea towel tucked in to your trousers/shorts/skirt or one over the shoulder to wipe hands quickly.

That would definitely have been a hard meal to get through for me. 🤮

It’s bad enough when someone puts a spoon into food to taste it, licks it, and then used the same spoon to do the same again later. With fingers it’s somehow much more gross - esp as it’s repeatedly!

I just felt I couldn't comment. It would have sounded so ungrateful.

She can’t possibly be conscious that she’s doing it so if you’re not comfortable saying it, you could make up a story soon about being at a restaurant/at a deli and you saw someone lick their fingers snd you’d to walk out. Convey your repulsion and sow the seed.

Always remember sitting in a friend's kitchen while she dished up spag bol. She wanted the plates to look tidy so she was clearing up the edges of each plate by scooping the sauce on to her finger, licking it and then moving on to the next plate. 🤢

I just ate it and avoided that side of the plate but yuck, YANU.

I have a friend like this. She loves to entertain, but lives on a boat (a bit dirty to say the least) and licks her fingers constantly while making food (with accompanying lip-smacking noise). I think it’s disgusting. She also ‘washed up’ some plates and cutlery in the sink last time in dirty, flat grey water before serving. I nearly threw up. Never again. I now avoid any situation where her preparing food might happen. She also wees in a bowl and tips it in the river and squats over a carrier bag when doing a poo before putting it in the dog poo bin. It’s no way to live!

Wouldn't bother me that much, but I know plenty of people who wouldn't be able to eat the meal after that.

A family member does this too. It turns my stomach.
