PT left the gym, now what?

My PT messaged to say they are leaving the gym and hoped we could have the last class prior. I was away for 2 weeks and couldn't make it the few days between being back and then leaving (we flew long haul, had jet lag, toddler, I'm pregnant and work 5 days).

I asked what the options were and they said an online PT session. This isn't what I paid for and I have various apps for that.

I asked if the gym could accommodate one session after they left and we fixed for today. I have a rash so warned them as DS had hand foot and mouth last weekend/earlier in the week. I feel fine but wanted to be courteous. They said they don't want to train me and will refund me half. I pointed out I might not have it but wanted to flag and they said definitely not to training me.

Of course I'd rather they asked the gym if could defer one more week, they said 'I don't think so' and so I asked for a full refund instead and they sent a long reply saying I could have given more notice today (I only woke up with the rash today and let them know). Then said I had cancelled a session once before and she didn't charge me. I see that as irrelevant right now?

I feel like she left the gym, gave me a few weeks notice when I was on holiday for 2 of those weeks and now won't refund me. I didn't sign a contract as it was a block of 4 classes to start with... if was a repeat block and I didn't see it as a risk.

I think you YABU .
She offered you times - you couldn't make them as you were busy with holidays then didn't want to do it when back etc - not her problem.
The offer to refund you half is fine - you didn't give much notice and no one would want to knowingly catch a very contagious disease.

I think YABU too. They tried to accommodate you and I don’t blame them for being anxious about a potential disease. It isn’t irrelevant that she didn’t charge you before. You cancelled and this is her job.

Accept the half cost refund with good grace.

YABU
she tried, not her fault you were on holiday and then on the day of you were too ill to attend. Write this one off.

YABU. It isn't the PT's fault that you were on holiday when she announced she was leaving the gym! And it's not her fault that you've probably got a contagious infection. If you don't turn up for your session, for whatever reason, you have to cover the cost if it's too short notice for them to find anyone else for that slot. I realise you can't help the rash, but it's just one of those things where you have to suck it up.

Then said I had cancelled a session once before and she didn't charge me. I see that as irrelevant right now?

It's very relevant, because she's already very likely lost money from one session you've cancelled. She is pointing that your wish to cancel and get a full refund on this occasion isn't a one-off. Lots of people like PTs, hairdressers, music teachers etc who you pay for an appointment session will make that kind of exception once, but if you then ask again will rightly put their foot down.

I appreciate the comments but I'm confused by 'it's not her fault you went on holiday as she quit'.

It's also not my fault I booked a holiday when I did. If a PT leaves a gym, surely a refund should be offered.

If anything I've tried to avoid that by asking if she could ask the gym to allow us back for our last session.

(we flew long haul, had jet lag, toddler, I'm pregnant and work 5 days).- so she offered you a session and you couldn't make it because of these reasons ...
The gym have accommodated the final session and you can't make it .
Seems like she has been more than reasonable - I would have said you lost this last session because of the previous one you didn't get charged for cancelling !
