To ask if anyone has used a proper chauffeur service

And if so please could you tell me your experience?

I’ve got some airport runs coming up and keep getting worse and worse car. Even previously reliable Addison Lee has gone very far downhill, no better than an Uber

Ive had quotes and the price looks like double a normal cab. Is it worth it in terms of difference in service? And what is the protocol with tipping?

We’ve used Addison Lee quite a few times. They’ve always been really good. Always on time and very helpful. No idea what the protocol is with tipping though-we slip them a £20 note and they always seem pleased. (or they’re just being polite-I’m not sure!)

strawberry12345 · 23/05/2024 21:18

Thank you. It’s a shame about Addison Lee I’ve used them for years but instead of the SUVs they used to have as standard I’ve had crappy cars over the last few years

So am looking at instead of a cab like Addison Lee a proper chauffeur service (looking at a companies called Kelly’s and Belgraves). They supply cars to the government, embassies etc

I've used Kelly Executive a few times for work, both personally and for clients, and they've been brilliant.

@IDontLikePinaColadas thank you for replying that is really good to know. What is the tip protocol? I’ve always tipped Uber/addison Lee but I wondered if it was different if the base cost is double

@strawberry12345 I always have done (but then again it was a work expense...) but I don't think it's expected - they always seemed a bit surprised when I did.

Octavia64 · 23/05/2024 21:32

Yes I've used them.

Mostly airport runs.

I didn't tip (I mostly fell asleep on the way home to be honest)

Prebooked and prepaid.

strawberry12345 · 23/05/2024 21:43

@IDontLikePinaColadas @Octavia64 thank you both. Yes it’ll be expensed so good to know. Much appreciated

What is the difference between a chauffeur service and a normal taxi?

strawberry12345 · 23/05/2024 22:11

Much much better cars. Plus suited and booted drivers. Bottled water on car. Plus whilst I have pad for meet and greet with pre-booked taxis including Addison Lee, whilst you are supposed to meet your driver in arrivals (like it used to happen as standard) the last 5-10 times they’re not actually there and I end up calling them and meeting them in the car park which isn’t what was agreed. I think the service in regular cabs has gone so downhill

We use Crawfords for exec level service and they are excellent. Always punctual polite, and extremely helpful. Lots of the TV companies use them for celebs.

strawberry12345 · 23/05/2024 23:25

I have used Wheely, really good but not cheap, always has been better than my experience with Blacklane

AIBunnecessary · 07/03/2025 22:33

I've used Blacklane very nice cars from the couple we've had.
