Glad that the odious Rwanda scheme is finally the dead duck it was always destined to be.

Angry that £500m has gone down the toilet.

To think how many people could have been assisted with that money too! What a shitshow.

IClaudine · 23/05/2024 18:15

Even Sunak was against the plan at first, but he was too weak and in thrall to the right wing loons in his party to kill it when he became PM.

Hey posters who think IABU, why? Don't be shy!

It was never going to be a deterrent.
It was never going to work at all.

The only winners here are the Rwandan government, and that isn't a win at all.

We need some grown up solutions to the refugee problem and that will mean investment in staff, international collaboration and pragmatism.

BIossomtoes · 23/05/2024 18:30

I feel exactly the same. All that wasted money. I could weep.

JoJothegerbil · 23/05/2024 18:48

It's was always going to be another Tory pie in the sky scheme. The amount of money that's been wasted is a travesty. How many social homes could have been built with half a billion quid?

YellowHairband · 23/05/2024 18:59

"If I am re-elected as prime minister on 5 July, these flights will go... we will get out Rwanda scheme up and running"

It's not possible that anyone believes this.

He probably called the election now because he knows it won't happen, and if the election was in November they'd be even less credible suggesting they'd take off soon if only they could just be re-elected.

I’m sure it was a contributory factor. Along with no money for bribes tax cuts, NHS waiting lists getting longer and shit in the rivers.

IClaudine · 23/05/2024 19:28

I reckon some people will still believe him @YellowHairband and we'll hear that line ad nauseum for the next six weeks.

Unfortunately I bet some are thick enough to believe it. Is anyone going to point out that the boats only started coming AFTER Brexit. Which was largely sold on a promise to get rid of the pesky foreigners.

IClaudine · 24/05/2024 09:28

To add insult to injury, we are paying Home Office staff to be out in Rwanda, waiting for flights that will never arrive.

YANBU. Yes I'm happy it won't be happening but I'm fucking raging at the £100s of millions of UK money spent building accommodation in Rwanda when we need housing here. I'm pissed off to high heaven at the court costs wasted when we can't lock up criminals here.

All that money for nothing!AngryAngryAngry
