Going for a holiday in your own past

My eight year old son and I were talking last night. He said that he wished you could go back in time and live out a period of your life again. So you could go back and live your birthday over again. But you would have to pay.
So you could pay via a travel agent type person to go back, and the price would go up by day. Only the mega rich could afford to live out their twenties from start to finish again for example.
I said 'but what would happen to the them in the present day?' and he said they wouldn't be active there, they would be asleep. I said that I thought that their relatives would miss them, they would miss Grandma if she was constantly asleep due to being back in 1964 again.
Then we wondered whether people actually would do this? Would they go back? Would they choose to go back to a certain day, week etc? How much would you be prepared to pay

What are the rules for this - will you know you are reliving the period, or will you relive it 'in the moment' again? If the former, can you change anything that happened?

@LongSinceGotUpAndGone no maybe you don't go back with your current consciousness so can't change anything with hindsight. But afterwards it will leave you with a nice feeling? Refreshed maybe?

I don't think I would do it in that case, it wouldn't really be different from having the time as a memory. It would only be worth it to do it with my current consciousness, even if I couldn't change anything.

It's an interesting idea but I dont think I would. On the whole I am a future oriented person:- I dont have many keepsakes (other than DH & DCs).

I think people could become addicted, especially to spend time with people who were no longer here. They could bankrupt themselves.

Bit risky, based on Total Recall

EnterFunnyNameHere · 21/05/2024 07:18

Yes, I'd go back and see my DM on the reg. No matter what the cost.

And I think it would be really addictive and dangerous really - lots of people make it through tough times because there is no real alternative. Suddenly there would be! It's an interesting discussion though for sure!

@EnterFunnyNameHere someone I knew became addicted to seeing mediums to 'hear' things from their mum.
