My birthday today!!!

Well, it's not today, but is on Sunday. Am I being unreasonable that cards & greetings should be received before Sunday? I have, & have always felt that cards (I love a card!) & good wishes should be be received before a birthday? Once it's gone, it's gone. It's one day, like Christmas. If I get a card after, bank holiday post not withstanding, I feel like chucking it in the bin!! I feel maybe churlishly that the sender doesn't really care, unless they have a genuine reason, I am an afterthought& not worth their attention- consequently I will judge them- & my relationship with them! Am I being unreasonable?

Totally unreasonable. Better late than never.

TeaandScandal · 17/05/2024 22:07

Yes, you are.

SeismicSalad · 17/05/2024 22:08

Yes

JosiePosey · 17/05/2024 22:08

Wow. Grow up.

Thedogscollar · 17/05/2024 22:10

Have you been drinking?

salamithumbs · 17/05/2024 22:11

Sorry, I think you're being unreasonable...I've never given or received a birthday card before the actual birthday/party. It would never occur to me to give one early tbh

CrissCrossAppleSauce · 17/05/2024 22:11

My mum saved up the cards until our birthday and we opened them with our gifts. I thought this was normal. Although Christmas cards were opened when we received them.

when we posted them we did our best for them to arrive on exactly the right day.

I don’t really get cards in the post these days.

I say a lighthearted unreasonable

AmyDudley · 17/05/2024 22:12

You're bonkers.

HTH

RainbowZebraWarrior · 17/05/2024 22:12

Erm. It's my birthday on Monday.

I'm not expecting good wishes or cards until the actual day itself.

Even then, I won't perish if it doesn't happen.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/05/2024 22:13

How many cards are/were you expecting?

GeckoFeet · 17/05/2024 22:15

The sender cares a lot if they are sending a grown adult a birthday card, especially if you're not related...so what if it's late. It being late extends your birthday celebrations.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 17/05/2024 22:18

If it's Sunday isn't it most likely that if people have posted you a card it will arrive tomorrow? Otherwise I would imagine I may get card/gift when I see people (if we exchange) be that before or after my birthday. One of my friend's and I always end up doing it late and it's become a thing now that we are extending each other's birthday celebrations!

Ispywithmylittlepie · 17/05/2024 22:18

YABU OP!

@Thedogscollar you sound like my mum 😁

Christ, I hardly get any cards. Who cares if it's late.

INeedToClingToSomething · 17/05/2024 22:18

Jesus. You need to get over yourself. I am really grateful if someone has bothered to go out, buy a card, stick a stamp on it and go out to post it. Tbh I'm grateful if they remember to text or pop a message on FB. People have busy lives with a lot of their own shit going on. They don't always have the time or brain space for me and that's fine. It doesn't mean they don't care.

Ha ha I only asked as I've had a drink.
OP hasn't been back though.
Disappointed 😞
Strange thread.

littlegrebe · 17/05/2024 22:29

By taking an attitude like that you're depriving yourself of the Birthday Week, in which the big day itself merely kicks off the festivities. Someone I know once managed a whole Birthday Season for a big birthday, with multiple parties, weekends away and a tropical holiday. Think big!

lobeliahorizon · 17/05/2024 22:33

@ dogscollar mean comment! No- have you? @ ineedtoclingtosometing, yes maybe I do! Am stewing over perceived slight, probably being a tit. Usually get loads of cards before the day, have a fair few, which I really appreciate. But was expecting some others. Can't help way I feel, but also reading comments, now feel I've obviously overreacted! 😞

You should enjoy the week before AND week after your birthday for cards etc!

Thedogscollar · 17/05/2024 23:02

Oh for goodness sake lighten up.It was a tongue in cheek comment meant light heartedly over you feeling annoyed at not receiving cards before your birthday!

Hopefully you'll receive a load tomorrow.
Happy Birthday 🎂 plus 💐for Sunday.
