to ask for recommendations for a day out with kids

Friends visiting the UK with their 5 year old DS and 2 year old DD.

They will be arriving in Dover in the morning and spending the night in Hampshire and have asked for recommendations for something to do as a family to break the journey.

I have suggested the Watercress Line, which is near their final destination, but it's a "day out with Thomas" that day and will probably be heaving, plus they would have to leave Dover very early to get there in time to make the most of the day.

It's also the last day of the May half term so I imagine places like Legoland will also be chock-a-block.

They don't know the UK very well so something like a castle, a national trust property, a farm, basically any kind of day out which shows off the UK and has something to interest their young kids would go down well.

Somewhere not too far off the route between Dover and Hampshire.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

Stop and see the new forest ponies.
Crabbing at Mudford Quay- and Avon beach and slide.
Paulton Park - Peppa pig land - but yes busy.

New Forest is too far south west unfortunately - they are travelling to Alresford near Winchester.

Fishers Farm near Horsham - about 2 hours from Dover and 1 hour to Arlesford. Perfect for little ones!

Google Maps suggests they would be going via the M25. If so I'd suggest:
Buckland Park Lake (smallish, restaurant with lake views but need to book)
Box Hill (National Trust, good views, parking can be tricky on a nice day.)
Godstone Farm or Bocketts Farm (kid focused)
Gatton Park (National Trust) I don't know it well
Priory Park Reigate - great Park with water bits
