There are so many benefits bashing threads on here I’m really starting to wonder. Do the majority of people posting on mumsnet lean heavily to the right?

Can you please show us some evidence of this? The last poster I asked could not do so...

This sea lion has made the rounds. Also, a clarification on the sea lion character.

@AdamRyan thank you for doing the legwork for me 😉

if the exact words aren’t “at least the Tories…” then the detailing of every single thread onto this issue is absolutely true…as this thread so admirably demonstrates. Just on this thread I’ve been castigated for rolling my eyes about it.

Those of you saying this doesn’t happen are being disingenuous to put it charitably.

It’s still a goady line 🤷‍♀️

Re the words you posted. If you meant another set of words then go with that.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2024 20:33

@hayleyrabbit ah, I see you weren’t asking because you were genuinely curious, but because you wanted to prove me wrong. I’ll say the word again, disingenuous. It’s not a good look.

im actually on holiday this weekend, there’s wine to be drunk and im Not prepared to play that game 😬 sorry not sorry!

Don't post on here if you've had wine. It doesn't go well. I know from bitter experience 😂

I’d say that’s what they’re going for but looks rubbish whatever it is

hayleyrabbit · 18/05/2024 20:43

Yes I can see from these threads that there are a few people saying that they will reluctantly vote Tory as Labour are useless on women's rights - and plenty of posters arguing with them.
It's not really what some posters on here have said is happening now is it? That is that there are loads of far right FWR women clamouring to vote Tory because 'at least they know what a woman is'.
You are misrepresenting the facts but this is not a surprise to me.

Noone has said "there are loads of far right FWR women clamouring to vote Tory because 'at least they know what a woman is'".

And stop insulting me. Its unnecessary.

@hayleyrabbit perfectly demonstrates the two step here. Trans issues and whatsawoman wars are simultaneously so important that formerly left leaning women are forced—forced!—to leave labour and vote Tory or all will be lost. And, at the same time, anyone who draws attention to the other political and policy issues that will be scanted, or to the obvious historical roots of the culture war in question, is taking things to seriously or speaking hyperbolically And its so very jejune of me to care so much? All this trans people are polluting our kids and destroying our country is a bit of bantz?

For some reason I feel like this post deserves a bump

suggestionsplease1 · 18/05/2024 15:24

It's just the dominating refrain on the FWR board 😆

The implication is there from several posters - like this one.

hayleyrabbit · 18/05/2024 20:50

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2024 18:59

@hayleyrabbit i have hidden the feminism topic for this reason and tbf I can’t be arsed to go searching for it. Sorry I’m lazy 😬 but I’m sure others will vouch for me that it is a daily refrain on politics threads mn.

And this one...

pikkumyy77 · 18/05/2024 21:01

I, too, have hidden the so called Feminism threads—on my phone—but I see them on my ipad where I never log in officially. Are you unaware that people might look at the site on different systems or view the site without logging in?

Well, that's because it is. I make no apology for pointing out the bloody obvious 😂.

Yes it's mainly on FWR, but then as soon as there is a politics or a 'who are you going to vote for ' thread on a more mainstream board on Mumsnet it is bandied around on all of them too.

It's like there's a little call to arms that goes up, a kind of..fox hunt horn sound that goes out to the hounds... so that the FWR regulars are alerted to the cause and can descend, en masse, to point out on those threads..'Well, at least the Tories know what a woman is' 😆

You’re using the line, there’s a few that do. It’s not used by actual GC posters

😂 Anyone who has eyes in their head, and is a somewhat regular reader of these boards will know that this is a repeating sentiment on such threads, from posters espousing GC views.

Man, they used to call gay love “the love that dare not speak its name.” Looks like being Tory Curious or aligning with right wing actors in defense of women’s rights is the same thing.

Its absurd but not really surprising. I periodically read the FWR boards and the GC stuff and at the height of the perceived struggle against the evil Empire of transpeople there was more coded language and cosplay courageous derring do than in a 19th century boy’s novel of adventure. Calls to action had some kind of coded form—like “gardening” (can’t remember) snd then all the other attributes of political action (phone calls, letters to the editor, fund raising, protests) were similarly referred to only by code and with many a winking emoji.

In a world where journalists and protestors of color, or environmental activists in the rain forest, or Saudi women exercising any freedoms at all are literally risking imprisonment and death the absolute absurd cosplay courage of the feminism boards is rather…well…vainglorious.

I hasten to add that I am not lecturing anyone here. I don’t have a goal of changing anyone’s mind or behavior. I’m just observing. I’m not a citizen of the UK and I don’t have a dog in this fight. I am just fascinated by how easily even a noble cause like the rights and safety of women and children can be perverted by blind fear, arrogance, and gullibility.

I appreciate the somewhat poetic posting but then I look at the Cass Review which is none of those things, so the writing seems a bit creative too.

Cass is sense returning and fortunately it’s shaping policy.

Baconisdelicious · 18/05/2024 22:20

Also judging from the amount of teacher unionists on this site I'd say it's left-wing

Teachers are very vulnerable to false accusations in their workplace. The kind of accusation that can ruin lives and result in prison sentences. How do you propose a teacher protects themself from such an accusation without union support?

pikkumyy77 · 18/05/2024 22:48

We aren’t talking about the Cass review though here? We are talking about the way a narrow focus on trans people and the supposed danger trans rights pose to women’s rights crowd out other political and policy issues (for some posters) and cause formerly self identified leftists (pesky self ID) to reluctantly and even seemingly unconsciously align with Tories and the international anti LGBTQ movement of trad/ethnic nationalist/putinist/orban/trumpist groups. All the while denying it is happening or that there are consequences for being useful idiots for the far right.

Lots of the spooky stories of scary transmen retailed on mumsnet have their origin in ginned up/fake right wing groups in the US like Chaya Raichik’s libs of tiktok. Or Chris Rufo who is a self described propagandist for the far right. Both these individuals produce instigating propaganda that results in stochastic acts of terrorism against LGBTQ people, teachers, women in general, and doctors and hospitals simply caring for patients.

Before it was transpeople the far right tried out other enemies of the people to mobilize para political action. I'm old enough to remember (in the US) a variety of enemies of our pure women and children: abolitionists (well: not that old!) , black people, jews, outside agitators, liberals, teachers, protestors, free love, abortion doctors, hispanics, gay people, environmentalists (scarily dubbed eco warriors) then SJW’s (social justice warriors i.e. feminists). Now its trans people in the target.

When they have finished attacking trans people and they’ve locked up enough votes they will come after abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and any attempt by teachers or parents to choose to raise children with a choice of sexual identity or non heterosexual relationships.

That’s the goal—the roadmap. It’s happening right now all over the world snd especially in the US. This is the ghost of Christmas future if you guys don’t wise up.

But you won’t. Because its easier and more fun to cosplay heroic feminist action against s vanishingly unimportant trans community than do the heavy and serious work of organizing to fight the far right attack on all our shared social institutions women’s rights to bodily self determination.
