There are so many benefits bashing threads on here I’m really starting to wonder. Do the majority of people posting on mumsnet lean heavily to the right?

We aren’t talking about the Cass review though here? We are talking about the way a narrow focus on trans people and the supposed danger trans rights pose to women’s rights crowd out other political and policy issues (for some posters) and cause formerly self identified leftists (pesky self ID) to reluctantly and even seemingly unconsciously align with Tories and the international anti LGBTQ movement of trad/ethnic nationalist/putinist/orban/trumpist groups. All the while denying it is happening or that there are consequences for being useful idiots for the far right.

Lots of the spooky stories of scary transmen retailed on mumsnet have their origin in ginned up/fake right wing groups in the US like Chaya Raichik’s libs of tiktok. Or Chris Rufo who is a self described propagandist for the far right. Both these individuals produce instigating propaganda that results in stochastic acts of terrorism against LGBTQ people, teachers, women in general, and doctors and hospitals simply caring for patients.

Before it was transpeople the far right tried out other enemies of the people to mobilize para political action. I'm old enough to remember (in the US) a variety of enemies of our pure women and children: abolitionists (well: not that old!) , black people, jews, outside agitators, liberals, teachers, protestors, free love, abortion doctors, hispanics, gay people, environmentalists (scarily dubbed eco warriors) then SJW’s (social justice warriors i.e. feminists). Now its trans people in the target.

When they have finished attacking trans people and they’ve locked up enough votes they will come after abortion, contraception, gay marriage, and any attempt by teachers or parents to choose to raise children with a choice of sexual identity or non heterosexual relationships.

That’s the goal—the roadmap. It’s happening right now all over the world snd especially in the US. This is the ghost of Christmas future if you guys don’t wise up.

But you won’t. Because its easier and more fun to cosplay heroic feminist action against s vanishingly unimportant trans community than do the heavy and serious work of organizing to fight the far right attack on all our shared social institutions women’s rights to bodily self determination.

It’s a good imagination but not no not close.

Veered a bit too much to take seriously, although I can see you care to write it all out.

The threads linked above seem full of women saying 'hell no'.

Yes. And some posters saying "I'm voting tory on this single issue".
I posted them because some posters were adamant this didn't happen and was meany lefties making it up.

Well said.

It is happening in plain sight on FWR.

There are gleeful threads targeting gay women - 'lesbian nana' anyone?

There are threads giving advice on how to deface rainbow flags and disrupt Pride marches.

There are threads arguing that gay women should not have access to fertility treatment.

This is not a board that is friendly to gay people, make no mistake.

Yes it's really sad. Did not used to be that way.

There is also an increasing focus on castigating women for not meeting some arbitrary standards. To read some threads you'd think women like Jess Philips, Janice Turner and Jane Clare Jones were the antichrist. As opposed to very effective and inspiring women with a slightly different view.

It's like you got all the TRA talking points in. And you don't even know that a trans man is a female who says she is a man. And you haven't even worked out that sterilising gay, lesbian and autistic kids is a bad thing.

Because sterilising gay, lesbian and autistic kids is a bad thing. No matter how you try and reframe it. No matter which side of the political spectrum you are on.

I can't ever remember the benefit bashers and the racists when I first joined MN (which I think was 20 years ago!) but the Tories and Trump and Boris and Brexit have been horrible for this country and I think people are more openly horrible now.

MN is still amazing though.

Yes I'm many years here too and as I said earlier in the thread, you barely saw them.
Don't get me wrong, they were still there, but it was under the surface and only the occasional comment.
Now in the last few years, certainly after Brexit and 2017;ish with the shift in attitude towards towards trans people, it's becoming more emboldened.
I still love MN as love a wide range of opinions but can't deny it's becoming one of the few places that people feel emboldened to spout crap towards minorities.
Hence the more visible shift towards right wing viewpoints.

I wonder if anyone has ever done any research into how effective a wee scold is in getting women to do what you tell them?

Doesn't FWR get annoyed if anyone uses a misogynistic term to berate others? Why, then, do you constantly use the word 'scold' as an insult when someone challenges you?

A scold's bridle is an instrument that was used to specifically stop women from speaking using physical means. Scolding is a 'telling off' used, and used regularly against women.

So in this aspect, this is a very accurate use of the word.

It is very accurate on a thread telling women off for:

Defending the rights of women
Not wanting kids to take cancer drugs that will sterilise them.

Odd, then, that it would be used as a tool to stop other women from having their say, simply because you don't agree with what they're saying.

Nobody here is 'scolding' anyone for voting or behaving differently.

Well i have literally NEVER seen a post about 'scary transmen' on the FWR board. They get huge amounts of support in fact as many of us can see ourselves in them and many of us - me included - would also have been swept up in this horrible ideology as youngsters.

You are importing your US mindset to the UK where the political landscape is very, very different. You are also not very knowledgeable about this topic.

I agree with you that society in general has been coarsened somehow and it's defintely everyone for themselves and fuck anyone who needs help. I beg to differ - women speaking up about the harms of trans ideology get shouted down, called names and lectured - scolded in fact. It's a good use of the word.

It's all there on the boards in black and white for anyone to read.

Mumsnet moderators appear to support the illegal defacement of other people's property as well. I complained about one poster giving advice to others on how to make the defacement of rainbow materials more permanent.

I argued that the post gave advice on how to commit an illegal activity (which is true) and should be removed.

I was told it would not be removed as it constituted freedom of speech.
