In the coming general election will you base your vote on …

State of the country, economic performance, moral rectitude of the government or lack of..
So if you are unhappy with the way the country has been governed, general conduct of the Conservatives, you’ll presumably not vote for them. They’ve had 13 years to improve things. 13 years to level up (Not just Johnson’s plan but Northern Powerhouse before that etc too) and very little has been achieved.
Or
Tradition, how you’ve always voted. Don’t trust the other side however bad your ‘team’ are. Even though your team may have been corrupt, deceptive, inept (Truss, Johnson) or wish washy, indecisive, uncharismatic (Corbyn, Starmer) you’ll still vote for the same party.
I’m interested in tribal politics. The next GE will be fascinating to see if the Red wall continues to crumble and the Home Counties drop their loyalty to the Conservatives….. What does it take to change your allegiance ?

However bad the other side is, I don't trust my 'team'!

RudsyFarmer · 28/09/2023 10:52

I don’t think you’re that interested in other peoples opinions. It’s obvious in the way you’ve worded your opening post that you are here to push your own agenda.

madamreign · 28/09/2023 10:52

Data.

I base my vote on actual data.

BlueKaftan · 28/09/2023 10:54

Most likely I will vote for whichever party acknowledges that I’m a woman, not the kind with a penis.

Theunamedcat · 28/09/2023 10:54

Piss poor performance leads to piss poor outcome I will be watching everyone very carefully until its voting time im a swing voter with no particular allegiance

frozendaisy · 28/09/2023 10:55

The only way of getting our useless Tory MP out is to vote labour.

You missed out tactically

UsernameChangedYetAgain · 28/09/2023 10:55

The language of the Labour party and it's voters actively discourages me from voting Labour. I have previously voted labour in the past but the bullying and aggression and sanctimony from the left is something I can't tolerate anymore.

So I'm politically homeless.

Letsgetouttahere2023 · 28/09/2023 10:56

I will not vote for anyone who pledges to charge VAT on education

wednamenov · 28/09/2023 10:57

I don't have a 'team' and have voted Tory, Labour, Lib Dem,Green and SNP in the past so I'm not who you're targeting with this. But the Conservatives have got to go. And I'll never - NEVER - vote Tory again. No matter what they do or say in the future to redeem themselves. I will never trust them again. Their destruction of this country is so severe and long lasting that it is completely unforgivable.

user1497207191 · 28/09/2023 10:59

For the past 40 years, I've voted a mix of Lab, Tory and Libdems, but I can't vote for any of those next time. I can't vote for Greens who are far too extreme locally. For me, I'll vote the best independent option available.

I don't care about voting tactically to remove the Tories as Labour will be just as bad. (Lots of incompetence in Blair/Brown's 3 terms of office). Can't vote libdem after they sold their soul for a whiff of power in the coalition. Can't vote Tory with billionaire Rishi in charge.

wednamenov · 28/09/2023 10:59

Not education : VAT on luxury fee-paying education. You don't HAVE to pay that VAT, there are alternatives. You have a choice.

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 28/09/2023 11:02

@RudsyFarmer why ? You mean calling Starmer wish washy ?
yup. Then again what’s worse indecisive or corrupt …

Me too. I just cannot vote Labour for this reason and can't believe any woman or parent of daughters could vote for them.

I am in limbo too. We need a new option.

Leggytigberk · 28/09/2023 11:04

I would like to think that I will vote FOR someone as a leader or a policy that I sympathised with.
If we are left with the possibility of voting against things or for the least worst I might vote Conservative for the sake of continuity. A change to Labour would be very disruptive as they would be learning how to do things. They have less experience of government.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/09/2023 11:04

I will probably be more or less compelled to vote LD even though I think they’re pretty hopeless. Our constituency is always a toss up between Con/LD - currently LD. Labour come nowhere here.
I won’t vote Green - AFAIK they’re another lot who still can’t/won’t accept the facts of basic M/F biology.

But you never know. I’d never not vote, or just spoil a ballot paper, but I was once so utterly fed up with the whole lot of them, I voted for the Monster Raving Loony candidate. Ages ago, but I might just be tempted again….

Letsgetouttahere2023 · 28/09/2023 11:04

@wednamenov no I don't, I need nursery and pre school for my youngest so i can work. SEN school for my middle. I'd like eldest to go to university. I can't afford VAT on top of what are already crippling fees for this.

The Lib Dem’s have been completely hijacked by extremists. As has the Greens. Just be careful what you vote for.

Katharinablumwasinnocent · 28/09/2023 11:08

@Kibnleat so essentially you are happy with the status quo ?

I get what you mean.

Op neither really. I vote switch but look at policies

user1497207191 · 28/09/2023 11:10

Farage and UKIP gained lots of votes for exactly the reasons being expressed on this thread, i.e. that more and more people don't want to vote for either the Tories, Labour or Libdems and are desperately looking for an alternative. We need to be careful what we wish for, or we could find ourselves with another "extreme" political party sweeping in and attracting lots of votes!

OhmygodDont · 28/09/2023 11:10

I’ll vote for my independent one.

How anyone could vote for a “team” that thinks a women can have a penis is past me. I have daughters to think about not how some men feel.

Noname99 · 28/09/2023 11:10

I’ll vote for the party I think will be the best for me and my family. Just like most people do. Whilst there are always millionaire socialists and poor conservatives, mostly people vote for the party that they perceive will benefit them the most. It’s only Labour who some how try to make out there is virtue in this. Generally (and it is generally that counts as it’s a majority not minority that makes the difference) if you earn a lower wage, are on benefits and a heavy user of ‘state services’ you are going to vote labour. Not for any moral purpose (however much you like to dress it up) but because you perceive you will do better either through more benefits or better services that ‘richer’ people will pay more for than you. If you are higher wage, no benefits and lesser user of state services because you can ‘top up’ privately then you vote Tory because you perceive that you will keep more if he money you earn and pay less to the ‘state.’

Very few people are ‘issue’ voters. It’s been proven over and over again ….. there would be hundreds of green MPs if we were …. the only exception to that has been the last election which was heavily influenced by Brexit. But that was still people voting for what they perceived to be their best interests.

gabbyaggy · 28/09/2023 11:11

The wilfull ignorance and lack.of analytical thinking regarding the Conservatives is utterly mind boggling.

caringcarer · 28/09/2023 11:13

I feel very frustrated. I want to vote for a party that manages the country well, improves education, cares about the NHS, looks after elderly and disabled and families and females who are 51 percent of the electorate. There is no party that will do it or does this. Who do I vote for or do I just not bother to vote in 2024?
