Is mumsnet right wing?

There are so many benefits bashing threads on here I’m really starting to wonder. Do the majority of people posting on mumsnet lean heavily to the right?

I haven't voted on OP's poll (sorry OP) as I genuinely think it's mixed Right and Left. Perhaps I've not been here long enough even with lurking before signing up to post to get an accurate idea though

I agree @BrilloPadHairball it's an interesting thread

wellington77 · 18/05/2024 18:21

Exactly, I hate when people use the phrase “ right wing” it as if it means your evil etc, it shuts down debate and a whole section ( basically the majority) from feeling listened to or valued, hence you get the silent majority who feel they have to self censor themselves because they get abused if not. Right wing does not mean you are BNP, and I’m a politics teacher, does my head in!

Devonbabs · 18/05/2024 18:23

I would say it’s more left wing if anything

EasternStandard · 18/05/2024 18:29

Well judging by the posts most mumsnet users hate the tories and welcome unlimited immigration and benefits for all. The strange thing is a great majority say they earn over £100K and send their children to public school so who knows.

Tbf it’s all in there

saveforthat · 18/05/2024 18:12

Mmm I may have exaggerated a tiny bit there.

Or been hyperbolic?

AlisonDonut · 18/05/2024 15:55

Yeah see if women also means men it renders discussion about women completely obsolete.

The whole thing is broken.

It really doesn’t. You’re saying want a government not to address any issues that disproportionately affect women just because it might also help trans women? Really? That’s seriously flawed thinking. And why single issue voting - and ill Say it again this obsession with a single issue that drives so many people on mn to ignore the wider issues - is so dangerous.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2024 18:54

hayleyrabbit · 18/05/2024 15:12

Not seen a single poster say 'at least the Tories know what a woman is'.

Edited

You’re very lucky then because it’s become a daily trope on mn.

hayleyrabbit · 18/05/2024 18:54

@BitOutOfPractice Which 'issues' that the govt may address do women and trans women have in common?

Tbf it’s said more by Labour supporters than pp who care about sex based rights

I suspect you may well be right.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2024 18:59

@hayleyrabbit i have hidden the feminism topic for this reason and tbf I can’t be arsed to go searching for it. Sorry I’m lazy 😬 but I’m sure others will vouch for me that it is a daily refrain on politics threads mn.

It’s said by Labour supporters not by anyone who actually is GC

BitOutOfPractice · 18/05/2024 19:19

So you keep saying @EasternStandard IME it’s said by people explaining why they will not be voting Labour 🤷‍♀️

Didn’t you just say you don’t read the board?

I do and I know who’s GC and they pretty much never use the line. People do as more of a jibe

ArabellaScott · 18/05/2024 19:23

You've hidden a topic but are very sure about what's said on it?

Might be easier to do a poll asking if MNers are voting Tory or Labour. That would perhaps give an idea of how MNers are likely to vote, rather than 'what is your perception of MN', which is what this thread is really asking.

So, that's a no then. That's ok. 😄

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/05/2024 19:32

I agree, someone will come and say it sarcastically on every post re Labour, then some people who aren't necessarily FWR regulars will agree/disagree and it derails the thread. It's goady.

ArabellaScott · 18/05/2024 19:41

"I want to come back to your earlier comments about this being about culture wars. I do not think that that is the right way to characterise it. It is really about fundamental human rights...how we can ensure the co-existence of rights of different groups in society in a dignified and equal way."

Perhaps people who think that women's rights are important think that the issue isn't a single issue, but multiple issues all directed at women and girls.

What actually happens is that the activists pressure the government to address issues that affect trans women and this is to the detriment of actual women.

So everything and their uncle having to be 'trans inclusive' and they mean 'inclusive of males' not 'inclusive of women who think they are men' otherwise they lose the funding. So it destroys the original aim of the thing that was originally designed to benefit women/girls. We get this over, and over, and over, and over again.

It affects the thing, the access, the risk, the funding, the safety, the ability to speak out about it, the lack of press coverage, and thus is covers everything from the decision to the people now missing out because they have to self exclude. And when the whistle is blown, nobody gives a shit enough to even report it.

It isn't a single issue it is a multi level issue. It even affect us being able to know what we mean when we say 'women'. We don't mean 'men who say they are women', we just mean women.

I think most Mnetters have recognised the gaslighting by the at least the Tories know what a woman is crowd. Its funny how all the self proclaimed Tory "single issue" voters disappeared. You don't see any of them claiming to vote Reform, SDP or George Galloway's party on this "single issue".

And now they're pretending at least the Tories know what a woman is is not a thing on Mnet. Despite it being a dominant theme for a long time.

They must think we're thick.🙄
