When he said the next 5 years was going to be the most dangerous for the UK.

When did he say this? Could you post a link please.

Castlerock44 · 14/05/2024 23:07

Sorry I don't know how to link. He also warns us of nuclear war.

It was all over the news the other day!

BitOutOfPractice · 14/05/2024 23:12

He’s trying to scare people out of voting them out of power.

Assume everything he says now is about getting re-elected. He’s wasting his breath though. The most frightening thing 8 can imagine is another term of this shower-of-shit government.

Castlerock44 · 14/05/2024 23:13

Do you think he's really concerned or just electioneering?

Surely this is quite obvious???

Both, but atm, mainly the latter.

Both he's electioneering but also referring to China/Taiwan Russia/Ukraine and all the conflicts in the Middle East: do you not watch or read the news?

pizzaHeart · 14/05/2024 23:25

Thank you! Yes, I’ve heard this, I don’t remember these exact words so thought it’s something else. He wants us to vote for them at the next GE so he is trying different tactics, now it’s the turn for scaring off.
The nuclear threat mentioning is for Russia mainly, it’s the signal that we are taking situation seriously and prepare to act.

It’s disgraceful electioneering. There really are no depths to which they won’t stoop. Utter bastards 🤬

I agree

Pussygaloregalapagos · 14/05/2024 23:31

There are quite few international threats but he is Trying to frighten people into voting for them as they at least have experience in government. He does have a point on this however we do have a continuity of seevice from the civil service.

the Conservatives really need a rest from power and a chance to regroup. If they get organised during that downtime abd ditxh the deadwood they have a good chance of getting back in after one term… if we survive that far!

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 14/05/2024 23:31

Who knows. The Tories seem just as concerned about coloured lanyards atm so I wouldn't worry too much.

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 14/05/2024 23:35

Because he thinks (delusional) that the Tories will het re-elected and that's dangerous for the country.

DojaPhat · 14/05/2024 23:37

Fear/impending doom is really the only tactic the tories can at this stage of things wheel out to cling to power. Look around, everything else is either nearly annihilated or annihilated - the economy toboot. So between this nebulous boogeyman and the Rwanda flights it's really bottom barrel stuff. Try not to be drawn, however, to do that all you need to do is just look at the state of the country every now and then.

ladsladzladse · 14/05/2024 23:40

If Trump wins the US election in November and the USA withdraws from NATO (which is not that simple; other things would need to fall in place like the numbers in Congress) the UK will be in an unprecedented situation (as will the other European NATO countries). I'm not sure how having Sunak instead of Starmer or whoever as PM will help in that case, though - both parties seem to have pretty similar policies lately when it comes to foreign military adventures.

Zonder · 14/05/2024 23:51

If the next 5 years are going to be really dangerous we won't want him in charge. Why on earth would he assume we might?

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 14/05/2024 23:55

He's electioneering.

But (and I say this grudgingly) he's also right.

Climate driven conflict, and increasing scarcity of resources (including food) will mean that there are dangerous years ahead. It'll likely last longer than 5 years though. Anyone who hasn't realised this hasn't been paying attention.

There's no way on earth I'll be voting for this lot though!

Macbeff · 14/05/2024 23:57

He clearly explains what he means in the speech.

Exactly this. He knows he’ll get the scared vote.
