To book a holiday for tomorrow

We have 3 kids, 2 in primary and a 10month old baby. Hubby has had shared parental leave for 3 months (coming to an end on Monday) I'm on maternity atm.

We always said we would book 2 holidays in hubbys 3 months off , as will never get this chance again. We went to Dubai last month and it was great, got stranded due to the floods so didn't feel right booking another holiday so soon. He can't get half term off as he is back just before it.

However, I really feel like we should just do it, book a resort in turkey for 4 nights and make the most of our time off, yes kids will be off 3 days of school. I need someone to tell me it's a great idea or a stupid idea

Do it!

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/05/2024 10:11

What do your children think? I have a couple of friends whose parents used to take them out of school for holidays and they still remember feeling awkward about returning to school when all their classmates had been there all along and having to catch up on what they’d missed / not knowing the bits their friends had already worked on. I don’t think children always find it as harmless as parents assume they will.

But ultimately it’s up to you. I’d want to go somewhere better than a resort though, if making the most of things is the goal.

BabyRaindeer · 14/05/2024 10:12

No!

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2024 10:13

Four nights? No way would I do that for a holiday with flights. Book somewhere in the UK.

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2024 10:14

I would go to London, Legoland, that sort of thing, avoiding the school holiday crowds.

Ceebs85 · 14/05/2024 10:15

4 nights wouldn't feel worth the flights/transfers etc with children but if you could go for longer I'd definitely do it if I had the money.

A few hard years have taught me that life is too short not to do the things

alrightluv · 14/05/2024 10:17

I agree a lot of hassle for 4 nights. Maybe a UK break?

NashvilleQueen · 14/05/2024 10:19

I wouldn't fly to turkey for four days because of the travel time. But I would find somewhere else nice whether in the UK or overseas and make the most of it.

DottieMoon · 14/05/2024 10:21

Do it!

I'm sure the kids will love it and as another poster put it, life is too short!

rwa818 · 14/05/2024 10:23

Just do it, they won't miss much in 3 days in primary school!
Are you sure you want to fly all the way to Turkey for 4 days though? A UK break might be better, or Disneyland Paris??

Octomama · 14/05/2024 10:24

For just 4 nights I'd go to Malaga or Barcelona, flight time and transfers much quicker than turkey

Do it! I totally disagree that it's too much hassle for 4 nights, we've done a few last minute 4 nights and loved every minute of it. Go for it, memories are the most important thing you can have in life.

TokyoSushi · 14/05/2024 10:26

Just book it!

hitherr · 14/05/2024 10:26

Re the uk break, the weathers putting me off tbh, and I feel like we can do that on any long weekend. We don't see things like travelling a hassle tbh, even with baby in tow. We just take it all on the chin

Jessforless · 14/05/2024 10:45

Absolutely, I would do this.

Relocate89 · 14/05/2024 10:46

I'd totally do it. Forget the UK break it's pissing down where I am! I don't agree that it's too much travel for 4 nights. You'll have a ball!

Post a pool pic when you get there!
