To chuck stick bombs over the fence?

I live next door to a couple who love to eat large quantities of charred meat. Seriously charred, I would say burnt! They fire up their barbecue 2 to 3 times a week, all seasons, and stink my house out. I like to have windows open most of the year and rarely manage to close them in time before the smell permeates. Having my washing out, or friends over in the garden, makes no difference, they still just crack on. Im vegetarian too which makes the smell particulalry unpleasant. And there is a massive language barrier so not sure how to tackle the issue. Since I spotted one of them throwing her fag ends over my fence, I have started to feel rather militant about it all. WIBU to chuck a stink bomb over every time they start up the BBQ?

I think you know really that throwing stink bombs is not a good idea.

Sounds like you need to move somewhere more remote where neighbours doing fairly normal things like barbecuing won't be an issue.

Stink bombs, no.

Throw the fag butts straight back though!

@GatherlyGal 3 times a week for a couple of hours isnt normal neighbourly behaviour

That's an odd phrase.

"Normal neighbourly behaviour"

I assume you're basing that on British neighbours and the British society and culture?

Well, that behaviour you class as normal, may not be normal to people of other cultures.

You can set them off in your own garden

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/05/2024 14:33

If you want fresh air, and it's from the back, you can set up a fan in/fan out system. Fan by the window facing in the front windows and fans facing out the back. It draws the air from the front. I do it for nice cool air.

What language? Learn a few words and use them, be the friendly neighbour. Then when you go around with a couple of fag butts and ask them to stop, they are more likely to stop.

@MrsTerryPratchett We are friendly enough in terms of nods and smiles. And I did take the fag butts back and gave them to her, and hasnt happended since. She didnt apologise, just seemed confused!

Thanks for the fan tip, will try that. Though sometimes you can smell it out front too, it really is vile.

@TuesdayWhistler Dont be daft, no racecard to be played here, really not playing that nasty game with you.

That's good. Probably a guest.
