A person told me after a medical incident they heard people say they were barely breathing and “going” as in pausing away but they were still awake how is this possible?

Why wouldn't it be possible. Having had an arterial haemorrhage and losing a massive amount of blood, my breathing was slow and shallow but I was awake through all of it. I didn't pass out until the bleeding stopped and the pain kicked in.
