DP sits on soft furnishings with smelly post-run bum

DP (who I love dearly, this is just for fun!) goes running a few times a week and says he can't shower as soon as he gets home as he's still sweating. Instead he sits down on the living room sofa/chair for a while to cool down before showering.

The problem is that DP, who doesn't normally smell, has an absolutely honking post-run butt. I'm worried that the smell will build up over time and the living room will stink. DP says I should chill out and he should be able to sit down in his own living room.

AIBU to ask him not to do that? How can we reach a compromise!?

Can he put a towel on the sofa and sit on that?

MintyCedric · 11/05/2024 19:27

Drape a thick towel over the chair for his post run cool down?

Allfur · 11/05/2024 19:27

What do you mean his bum smells, that's weird

Pupsandturtles · 11/05/2024 19:28

I’m not sure what you mean about a honking bum. But if his bum is wet with sweat, of course he shouldn’t sit down. Yes, the smell will build up over time and you’ll have to get your sofa professionally cleaned.

StormingNorman · 11/05/2024 19:28

He may not agree to a towel. What about a throw you can bung in the machine?

darkchocolatecoffee · 11/05/2024 19:29

Agree, throw a towel over. How do you know the smell is coming from the butt rather than general sweat smell?

Pickingmyselfup · 11/05/2024 19:30

I run several times a week and I have yet to make the surroundings smell like bum.

Does he never shower??

I would be unimpressed if I wasn't allowed to sit on my sofa post run, I really don't stink that much and if I did it wouldn't be the run that is the issue, I would be generally stinky so it should be an issue permanently.

Tagyoureit · 11/05/2024 19:32

Why are you sniffing your dh's arse as soon as he is back from a run?

I think you need a hobby!

TheCadoganArms · 11/05/2024 19:32

Kill him

Depends how sweaty you get. My partner sweats like a raincloud after a run. If he sat on the soft furnishings afterwards, after a few days they would smell like his dirty exercise clothes.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 11/05/2024 19:34

I don’t think people should make soft furnishings sweaty. Throw or towel.

SmallGreenBabies · 11/05/2024 19:34

Maybe I overemphasised the butt aspect XD I think it's just normal post run sweatiness!

Why does his bum smell? What is the matter with him?

Greydogs123 · 11/05/2024 19:36

I would get a throw for the sofa, maybe with a towel underneath where he sits and then just wash the throw once a week. Sweaty people shouldn’t sit on soft furnishings, obviously the sweat is going to get into the fabric.

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/05/2024 19:37

Is this a new low of MN smelly-arse questions? Apparently it is an infinite sphere of curiosity to some; I just wish we could get to the butt end of it all.

Don’t be an arse 😉

LtJudyHopps · 11/05/2024 19:41

Put a throw on the sofa you can take off and wash regularly…
I don’t sit down when I come in from the gym for this reason!

UnaOfStormhold · 11/05/2024 19:41

Send him lots of links about the importance of a good post run cool down and stretch rather than collapsing on the sofa straight away?

😂😂😂

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/05/2024 19:48

I recommend an after-run pouffe, with a washable cover/towel for any sweaty/smelly arse problems; the bonus being the sweaty person can drain off on their very own pouffe whilst also watching telly and eating snacks.

fluffi · 11/05/2024 19:51

I don’t sit on my own soft furnishings post workout / run for this reason … I’ll sit on something wipeable or my laminate floor (although mostly I change into a light robe /
nightdress that is due for a wash for a bit and wonder round the house, tidying etc to cool down and stop sweating before having a shower)

A towel is a reasonable compromise if he must collapse but he really should be stretching and cooling down rather than just stopping.

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 11/05/2024 19:51

I remember a post about this right back when I first joined MN 10years ago. Such nostalgia

RandomUsernameHere · 11/05/2024 19:55

Failing to understand why his butt would smell after running! I'm an avid runner and have never come across this before.
