AIBU to quote HRH Princess Royal ?!

Trying to drum up interest in a local club I’m part of (let’s say it’s sailing). We had a visit from HRH Princess Royal early 2000s. Am I permitted to print a quote from HRH that she made when visiting on our information pamphlet ?! She mentioned she thought the facilities were excellent and I’m just adding that she stated this ? Will I get sent to the Tower ?!

If it was 20 years ago it is a bit cheeky and pushing a bit far. 2 years ago would be different.

Shelinaa · 11/05/2024 06:51

I agree with PP - you had excellent facilities two decades ago. It would be cheeky to use that as evidence that you still do.

I mean you could... But it reminds me of when I stayed at a campsite a couple of years ago that proudly proclaimed it had won 'Best Toilets 1998'. A lot can happen to a toilet in 20 years...

Dollenganger333 · 11/05/2024 06:55

Well she said it so you wouldn't be lying. Unless the facilities have changed since then?

Witchinawell · 11/05/2024 06:58

Its more about the views and no they’ve not changed, when adding a quote do I need to include the year it was made ?! 😁

😂 that made me laugh, thank you.

Technically yes for context you should use the date. Has the quote been used all this time? Is it on your website? Did you release it at the time of the visit to promote it?

If it’s something you just remember her saying 20 years ago but haven’t used it since or had it written anywhere all this time it would be a bit questionable to quote it now.

No! It's regularly reviewed! They can't keep proclaiming 'loved by Liz' indefinitely!

They're reviewed regularly, lovely old Liz didn't complement their fruitiness 30 years ago 😂

AGlinnerOfHope · 11/05/2024 07:29

Reviewed every five years.

How to apply
Companies can apply for a Royal Warrant after they have supplied the Royal Household with goods or services for at least five years out of seven (to include during the 12 months before applying).

Witchinawell · 11/05/2024 07:32

So technically, if a visit by hrh is documented, and, an official of the club recalls her stating how beautiful the views were, we could use it and not get flung in the tower and fed to the ravens ?!

OP posts:
TeenDivided · 11/05/2024 07:35

The views are less likely to have changed than the facilities. delightful vista 'HRH The Princess Royal 2003' might be ok.

Amx · 11/05/2024 07:41

I suppose you could but would anyone care what she thought?

TheOccupier · 11/05/2024 07:44

This would not be appropriate and using a 20-year-old quote from anyone just makes you look desperate. Could you get some existing members to provide quotes that you can use?

ThinWomansBrain · 11/05/2024 07:49

Why don't you contact her office and ask?

Desperate ?! Snark. Just trying to drum up interest for a grass roots, local club that our area might potentially benefit from..

I think she’s the coolest Royal we have at the moment but that’s just my 2 cents ..

Yes, that’s likely the best option. Thank you

It wouldn't do much for me as I have no idea which one of them she is and think they are all a bit bonkers 😁.

That’s really not saying a lot.

TheOccupier · 11/05/2024 10:44

Yeah, honestly, it looks desperate. Not snark, just my opinion (even though I love her too). Maybe if you can share what the club does then you'll get more useful suggestions?

CarolineFields · 11/05/2024 10:46

it was a throw away comment a quarter of a century ago!

you make it look like no one has had a good word to say about your club since!

NotJohnMajor · 11/05/2024 10:58

I really don't think anyone would care in the legal sense about you quoting Princess Anne; if her office even found out (unlikely) they have far bigger fish to fry and it isn't as though she endorsed anything remotely controversial.

But using a twenty year old endorsement does have shades of 'nothing worth mentioning has happened since' so for that reason, I wouldn't use it.

Scallops · 11/05/2024 11:10

I'm still giggling at "A lot can happen to a toilet in 20 years"
