Tonsilitis AGAIN , feeling sorry for myself

I had tonsilitis 2 months ago, and it’s come back again. Doctors have prescribed another 10 days of antibiotics. I’m feeling really sorry for myself. Hate taking antibiotics as they often make me feel worse - has anyone else had tonsilitis this year? What if it comes back again?

Last year I was the same had it 3 times on the trot, I found gargling with hydrogen peroxide helped it move on quickly.

tonsillitis is absolutely rubbish hope you feel better soon

Probably a silly question but where can you get hydrogen peroxide from? Did you also have antibiotics?

Yes I had antibiotics for all 3 times, hydrogen peroxide you can pick up at the pharmacy, or Amazon as well this is the brand I got from local pharmacy https://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/hydrogen-peroxide-solution-3-10-vols/prd-h9n

make sure you change your toothbrush once the tonsillitis has gone.

Buy Hydrogen Peroxide Solution 3% 10 vols | Chemist Direct

Buy Hydrogen peroxide solution at Chemist Direct. Hydrogen peroxide solution 3% 10 vols is used as a mild skin disinfectant for minor cuts, wounds, skin ulcers.

Thank you - did the doctors say why they thought it came back a couple of times? Sorry for all the questions, I just feel like I’m doing something wrong catching it again!

I feel awful for you, and I hope you feel better soon. I had recurring tonsillitis most my childhood, then got them taken out when I was about 12. I’m not sure what the criteria to get them removed is now? I know it’s an extreme but I remember how unwell I was all the time with it, then since having them removed I barely even get sore throats.

also I know you said that you have antibiotics but have you asked for pain relief? I know it’s not going to clear it but it can help you whilst you heal. Wishing you the best x

I used to get tonsillitis all the time when I was with my Ex, since I split up with him years ago I have only had it once.

GetDownkeith · 10/05/2024 23:52

Aww huge sympathy. Tonsillitis makes you feel rotten. I am a chronic sufferer but always just miss the nhs criteria for removal because I have a run then don't have it for a couple of years then have 2-3 years of bouts again.
Look after yourself get loads of rest.

SpeedyDrama · 10/05/2024 23:57

I feel for you op. I have reoccurring laryngitis and it absolutely wipes me when it comes back. Something about throat infections that are so exhausting never mind the pain and generally feeling rotten.

Cloud44 · 11/05/2024 04:24

I’m really worried it’s going to keep coming back, normally I have it once then again a couple of years later I’ve not had it in such a short space before. I can’t afford to have time off work, it’s such a busy period, don’t know what to do!

Mine basically said I have young children, working etc managing that was likely making me run down. I had it 3 times and thought it wouldn’t end, but it did. I did looking back take stock of my health, and made sure I had downtime, focused on balanced diet, cut my alcohol right down, prioritised sleep. I don’t know if this helped or it was coincidence but I felt better anyway.
