Im first to admit when I’m not feeling great / got a virus I am bad for moping! If you’re someone who manages to not let it get to you / worry you how do you do it?!

I don't have time to mope.
Kids still need food/clean clothes/driving places/suppport.
I still have to work as I am a single parent.

When everything is done in the evening, I pass out If I am unwell. Thats how I cope.

SilentSilhouette · 09/05/2024 18:03

Time to mope is a luxury that I don't have.

Life goes on, kids need feeding, laundry, lessons to plan etc...

A virus will not go any quicker if I mope so it's easier to just get on with life and accept I need a bit more sleep so go to bed earlier.

Withswitch · 09/05/2024 18:09

As above, too much to do. If I mope for 2 days then on day 3 I then have to catch up with 2 days of work, washing, cleaning etc as well as still being ill.

I'm retired and live on my own, apart from my dog.

If I were to get mopey every time I feel unwell, which isn't often tbh, I'd probably end up just staying in bed and feeling sorry for myself, which would just make me feel worse.

Dog has to have her walks and I need to feed both of us. Moping around isn't going to help either of us.

The only time I've spent extra time in bed was the last time I had Covid and had a high temperature in the first couple of days.

Just don’t have time. If I stop, the house quickly goes to shit, no one picks up my stuff at work, it’s all on me, and generally I find I feel better if I just crack on. Also, having reached my 40s, if I stopped doing things because I had aches and pains, I’d never do anything!

OliveK · 09/05/2024 18:19

Sorry to be the voice of doom here but I'd really encourage a bit of moping.
Pushing through it, getting on with it, no time to be ill etc...I've said and done that for years. Now I find myself potentially unable to work again because I've pushed on through one virus too many.
Please rest when you need to.

Rationally, what does moping do?

It doesn’t make me feel better. I don’t get better by moping. If I’m proper sick, I just want to be left alone with the occasional food and meds, and sleep it off.

This.

I work from home mostly, so life just goes on. I get DS up and to school, then home, log on, keep working, although I might go back to bed and work from there.

If I feel really awful, I tell my boss, and then go to sleep. Set my alarm in time for afternoon school run.

No-one else is going to do it.

bluetopazlove · 09/05/2024 18:26

If you've got time to think about having an actual mope you're not really that ill ? Be grateful .

mondaytosunday · 09/05/2024 18:26

As PP says - moping is a luxury I cannot afford with a kid at home that goes to college and dogs that need walking and work.

Halfheadhighlights · 09/05/2024 18:28

I don’t mope, but if I need to rest and take time off work I will.

redfacebigdisgrace · 09/05/2024 18:28

What’s moping? I’m not sure what this is? Being grumpy?

Oblomov24 · 09/05/2024 18:37

I don't mope, but I am skilled at doing very little, if I choose to. Other times I'm very affective at getting things done, keeping on top of things, so that when I choose to, minimal household things need to be done. I keep on top of life admin, so on a day off I can have the house cleaned and all washing done etc in about 20 minutes, so then I can do very little for the rest of the day should I choose.

I have severe toothache at the moment.. possible abscess.. I'm at the dental hospital in the morning..I moped for a bit this morning but after that I had to do washing and make dinner for my children. Single parent.. I felt worse moping although I'm really struggling now.. I'll be in bed early for sure
