To think my job is semi-redundant.

I just got hired and had a fairly bumpy start but was finally finding my place/rhythm but now they've thrown a spanner in the works.

It turns out that the specific business model that I was hired for will be outsourced, and in the words of my manager given my ideas and the framework of the programme I started to build, owning that relationship is incompatible. It does leave me wondering, then what job do I have?

They paid a decent amount of £££ to recruit me, so I don't think they'd let me go, but also I feel I'm definitely redundant.

Talk to your manager about it. If they don't have a clear idea of where your role is going, they're not doing their job. If they do and it doesn't match your abilities/interest, talk to them about moving sideways to another role.

What's the worst that could happen? You might find out a little sooner that you are going to need a new job.

Most of the recruitment agencies are pais only if the candidate stays for certain amount of time. For large corporations it really doesn't matter that they paid to a recruiter. They absorb losses like that and it is quite common. The decisions about redundancies usually come from much higher above and most often are unexpected even for the hiring manager that you report to.

In a very odd twist of fate, the CMO had a chat with and they'll change my title, and job spec. That surely is good news, right?

Definitely good news - as long as it's something you're okay with doing as a living, anyway

Well I'm still doing the same (give or take) but the emphasis on the title change is so people across the whole company can recognise what's within my remit.
