Help- I feel like shit

feel very dramatic about this all but just so fed up!

I was unwell about 10 days ago and was in hospital for a few days (for something unrelated). I’m feeling better from the original problem now, but for the last 2 days I’ve gradually started to get ready weird chest symptoms. It’s not a cold- there’s no mucus and it’s all very dry, but it sort of feels like a cold in that my chest is really tight and heavy and dry and I’m using my inhaler a lot more (I’m asthmatic) but it’s not wet and I’m not bringing up loads of mucus of phlegm. I also don’t have a blocked nose or anything like that. I just feel generally crap- really achey all over and just a bit miserable. I came in from work tonight and just went to sleep and just woke up now and now I’m going back to sleep, I’m knackered. And my throat is getting sore now too although I’m not sure if that’s from the dry chest symptoms.

it won’t be a cold I’ve caught from hospital because the symptoms started a week later, and I know I sound dramatic but I feel utterly awful. Im guessing it’s just a dry cold, but does anyone have any advice that could help? I’ve tried the usual stuff but nothing is helping and im absolutely miserable with it

ive never really had flu or anything before so im a bit of a baby with it all!

any help would be appreciated x

Keep an eye on your throat. If it swells with white spots or the taste in your mouth starts to changes then go straight for antibiotics. There’s a lot of strep throat around atm. It affects the whole body which I didn’t realise. Took me a week to figure out the throat was the issue as that felt comparatively fine compared to systemic symptoms.

Have you taken a COVID test? I had it as the end of last year and couldn't work out why I felt so awful with what appeared to be a cold until my MIL suggested it could be COVID. It's still going round and, while not as dangerous as it was, it can still make you feel like utter shite.

I had Covid recently and it started with a really tight chest for a couple of days. No other symptoms apart from that - then I started to feel very fluey and achey.

I think as a rule if you suddenly find yourself using your inhaler more than usual you should seek medical advice. How often are you using your reliever at the moment?

Phone your gp

Phone your GP or 111. Could well be covid ,there's still a lot around despite the naysayers and if you need your inhaler more it's important you get checked.

I had/have this. Terrible, wracking cough, tight chest, light head - but no phlegm Went to the doctor and apparently I have whooping cough. Definitely check with your GP.

Ahh i had this earlier in the year. Even though I'd been vaccinated.

Aah I had this a few weeks ago and was so miserable with it. Really weird to have flu like muscle aches and tiredness but no other flu symptoms, and Dr Google was no help. I was waking in the night with the pain in my muscles. Weirdly when the muscle pain was subsiding I got incredibly swollen painful hands for a couple of days. Whole thing only lasted 5 days, doc thinks it was a delayed viral reaction to a cold I'd had a month early. Feel amazing now, but honestly at the time I felt so bad like I'd never get better! Fingers crossed it passes quickly for you too!

You don't mention COVID in your OP but you can't possibly not have considered that.

Notreat · 09/05/2024 13:35

It sounds like covid? My son is exactly the same , he did a test and it was positive.
I didn't realise there was much around at the moment but obviously there is.
