I have a problem, I have realised this this evening.
I really enjoy the chase is the thing. I love looking and thinking "yes, I really do want you!"
I actually seek it, spending quite a chunk of time scrolling through the different pictures until I see one I like that I get the urge to message.
I click message and always start with the same line, kidding myself this is what I really want...
"Is this still available?" I type. The thrill of waiting to see if the person has seen my message and will choose me or if I'm not the one.
They often reply and seem keen..
Most of the time I ghost them.
I don't know why.

Are you talking about inanimate objects? EBay, vinted, Facebook market place?

Because if so, you’re not leading anyone on. People who sell stuff online receive loads of “is this still available” and then nothing more. You sound strange.

WhatAreYouOnAbout · 09/05/2024 00:00

I’m assuming you are talking about people and not objects (people are not objects). If so, maybe you need therapy, as it sounds like you have attachment issues. It’s only fun if it’s fun for everyone involved.

EggcornAcorn · 09/05/2024 00:11

I don't really understand either.

tiredandabitfat · 09/05/2024 00:17

Like on Facebook marketplace etc?

I get loads of these messages from muppets like you who say "is this available" and then nothing.

It's mildly annoying, and you're an arsehole, and a bit weird, for doing it.

Apologies if I've misunderstood, but if this is what you're doing, yes, you're a total pain in the arse. It's just an annoyance no one needs. Grow up.

SurelySmartie · 09/05/2024 00:19

It’s immaturity and lack of personal development.
Get some good therapy.

Foxyaus · 09/05/2024 02:29

Sooooo, you've posted this and then waited with baited breath to see how many replies, then you'll ghost this thread?? 😄😄

aviatorsrus · 09/05/2024 03:54

That's exactly what OP has done. 😁
Very bizarre indeed

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 09/05/2024 06:01

It seems a very lonely and solipsistic thing to do. Starting this thread feels similar. A well crafted post that people will read and respond to but perhaps with little interest in people's actual responses.

To be fair though, I think we are all getting a bit more like that when we interact online. Essentially it is such a lonely business, despite its 'social' nature, that it just drives us deeper and deeper into our own heads.

Go for a walk, OP. Chat to a neighbour.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 09/05/2024 06:03

This sounds like a shite post from Reddit.

effoffwind · 09/05/2024 07:27

I felt like this over a Prada bag I saw on Vinted
Then I gave myself a shake and spent my £300 elsewhere
🥱

NotJohnMajor · 09/05/2024 07:29

You're just one amongst many time wasters - people who sell online are used to it.

x2boys · 09/05/2024 07:30

Doubt the Op will be back🙄

KrisAkabusi · 09/05/2024 07:33

I don't know why.
Because you're an aresehole?

Mybestusername · 09/05/2024 07:40

Reverse!

Heliss · 09/05/2024 08:50

I think someone is practising their flash fiction.

Needs more work OP, you put the reveal in that it's not OLD too soon.

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 09/05/2024 09:04

I see what you mean, Heliss. When I first read it, i just thought the poster had put in the extra 90 seconds to make the post clear and concise. But reading it again I do see something of the creative writing evening class about it.Grin
I read Jean Hanff's The Plot recently, which was soooo good on this sort of writerly ambition. It felt really humiliating to read it, as someone who has wanted to write.

crockofshite · 09/05/2024 09:05

Sad fanny

Thanks for the tip! Have just bought it as my holiday reading. 😅

Lol!

NonPlayerCharacter · 09/05/2024 13:28

I think you're vastly overestimating how invested people are at the first message stage of OLD (which is what I assume you're talking about), or how high their expectations at that point would be.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 09/05/2024 17:49

How would you feel if you were on the receiving end of this, OP?
