Worried about walking alone

Not very city savvy and in few months I have to attend a meeting in a city for 2/3 weeks.
Daylight hours 9-4 ish walking to and from the carpark to the building through the city high street and some gardens with cafes along the side.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I'm so anxious about having to walk alone as a woman and have recently read a news article that someone was sexually assaulted in the city (night time hours)

I'm freaking out.

I have to go to the meeting. And I can't get a lift.

Any advice on how to keep myself safe as possible?

Sorry if this sounds silly I'm just not a city girl and not done anything like this before on my own.

Thanks for reading.

Can you go in advance with a friend and walk the route?

MojoMoon · 08/05/2024 22:12

The most common location for a woman to be murdered is her own home.

Hopefully that puts walking along the high street in perspective.

Bluntly, OP, how do you think city-dwelling women go about their day to day lives? Where do you live?

MojoMoon · 08/05/2024 22:14

Also...why have you never walked anywhere alone?

That is quite odd for a woman in 2024, let alone one who is Living Life To The Full as your username implies.....

It’s just the unfamiliarity.

After 3 days it will feel like second nature.

This particular route might feel unfamiliar to you, but just bear in mind that millions of women do this sort of walk day in day out.

In the nicest possible way you need to get a grip. Unless you are walking through a distinctly shady area then you will be fine.

It will be good for your confidence. It's good to do something challenging. Get there a day early, if you can, and do the journey, the walk too.
