Tell me , am I alone in finding the smacking noises when people suck their fingers during and after eating , so so unbearable. I was in a restaurant recently and. lady next to our table , repeatedly sucked each and every one of her fingers whilst eating her starters. I have now noticed it more and more and I have to flee from the scene of the crime at top speed whist holding my ears. anyone else suffer like me ?

This is utterly disgusting behaviour and very bad manners and etiquette. Slovenly even. You are not being unreasonable.

That's a no from me,that would turn my stomach.

You might have misophonia (where certain sounds drive you crazy - often it can be eating sounds).

It doesn't bother me unless someone is being really disgusting and loud... but that very rarely happens... certainly not enough for me to be thinking about it/ starting threads etc.

That's why I think it may be misophonia.

Some "comedian" did this on celebrities go Dating a few years ago.

I remember one of her date's revulsion and it's coloured my view of her.

London something or other

There is an advert for KFC atm. It involves copious amounts of finger sucking including one in which an office worker sucks his greasy fingers then WITHOUT wiping, picks up his office telephone 🤢I have to look away and mute the sound - but I also have misofonia so I have to remove myself from any situation where someone is eating noisily next to me…

I find it as odd an advert as the Andrex one where everyone announces they are off for a poo.

Needanewjobsoon · 08/05/2024 06:19

Yep I have misophonia though!

One of my work colleagues used to do this whilst eating sandwiches at her desk. I normally decided that was a good time for me to take a comfort break.
She also had the cheek to complain when another colleague sometimes sniffed due to Hay Fever.

My husband does this. Gives me the ick 😞

ihatethewordhubby · 08/05/2024 08:54

Thanks lovely Mumsnetters for validating my outrage. I do have misophonia so I know my tolerance levels are stuck at a low level . I think I have seen that advert mentioned - should be taken off air . Sadly there are many triggers for me but this is a fairly new one to add to the long list .

I think I've only seen one friend do this in real life. Noone batted an eye lid when she did though so it must be normal in some families?

I've never felt the need to suck them. I'd wash them if dirty but like pp it's the methodical going through each finger sucking them. Shudder.

(I'm sure I have as many habits that make others have the ick!)
