Does this look like melanoma?

JosieMay1970 · 07/05/2024 16:47

I’ve had a small freckle on the side of my neck forever, however last week I noticed it itched and it felt like there was a spot/bug bite underneath/next to the freckle,

Am I being unreasonable in thinking this looks suspicious for melanoma or does it just look like a spot that’s appeared next to the freckle?

Having had multiple members of my family who’ve had melanoma in my family this is a subject where I feel like I overreact to any changes to my skin. I’m very anxious about skin changes! But this forum always helps!

Please don't take medical advice from strangers on the internet - if you're worried please see a doctor!

SENparent96 · 07/05/2024 16:49

You need to see the GP, not ask a bunch of non-medical strangers on the internet, sorry OP!

I have a DR appointment booked, just looking for advice whilst I wait

I agree with PP saying don't take advice from strangers on the internet OP, however I've just completed a course with this charity. and learned a huge amount about melanomas from it.

I am not qualified to diagnose, but to advise anyone with a mole or growth (I'm in an industry that sees the back of people's heads necks and ears) that looks like it should be checked, to do so. I've just been to have a couple of my own checked. Good luck.

There’s an app that can help. Can’t remember the name but until you get to a dr it might help the nerves. In my opinion a spot near a freckle.

I would say a spot near a freckle.
But, definitely get it checked.

Are you able to give me your opinion on my picture of my freckle? It would be good to have an opinion and idea before my appointment?

I agree with the PP, who have said a spot near a freckle, and even if not, I’d not be concerned. Glad you are going to see the GP though.

If it's only been a few days, surely it's most likely a spot near the freckle. It wouldn't have had a chance to heal up yet.

The main thing is though, it's worrying you enough to want to see a doctor. And as you say, you have a family history. There's no point sitting at home worrying so it's good you have booked the appointment and hopefully they can put your mind at rest.

Good luck and best wishes.
