To think this is a bit off ?

Booking a sitter for your kids and not informing them that both yourself and the kids are very sick with colds and coughs to the point of being on meds ?

That’s pretty outrageous. If I was the sitter I would have cancelled and left as soon as I saw the state of them. I wouldn’t risk getting ill and missing more work or school for one day’s employment

KreedKafer · 06/05/2024 15:26

I agree that this is shitty of the parents. They booked a babysitter, not a nurse.

If the kids are ill enough to be needing medication, you shouldn’t leave them with a babysitter.

HadEnough11 · 06/05/2024 15:29

Don’t know if I am over reacting but I am honestly so annoyed . I’m immune suppressed with a vulnerable family member undergoing cancer treatment who I see regularly. The parent didn’t know this but that’s beside the point.

That's inexcusable.

Springadorable · 06/05/2024 15:32

Were they off on a night out? I'm a bit confused why they need a sitter if they are that ill. If it's evening and they went out then surely kids are in bed and they aren't that sick?

HadEnough11 · 06/05/2024 15:33

No, parent was working from home

Then I hope you left immediately.

Arlanymor · 06/05/2024 15:34

That's really not on - I hope you declined?

HadEnough11 · 06/05/2024 15:38

Unfortunately I stayed as was caught off guard but I won’t be going back .

Nothing to do with anyone you see being vulnerable just bloody rude of the parent to not care about exposing you!

I would be very clear to tell them this and i would not babysit

Springadorable · 06/05/2024 17:28

In that case that's not on. If kids are that sick they need to do what the rest of us do and take leave to look after them.

How quickly people forget all the lessons of COVID eh? Sorry you had to experience that, even without the added complications of having immunosuppression and a vulnerable close relative, it’s really not alright to expose people to your infectious germs when it is entirely avoidable. Either way, YANBU and I hope you don’t get sick.

HadEnough11 · 06/05/2024 17:55

I feel very disrespected and upset because I do really like the kids but I can't go back to a family who thinks this is acceptable.

OP posts:
Springadorable · 06/05/2024 18:45

They definitely should have given you a heads up. I'm self employed and go into people's houses for work and always appreciate people letting me know when they are ill. For me I very rarely cancel because of it, but at least I can make an informed choice. To just spring it on you isn't cool. If you get on well with them normally is it worth mentioning rather than not going back?

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 06/05/2024 18:46

I'd of walked out.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/05/2024 18:51

I wouldn’t have stayed. That’s ridiculous. That needs to be informed up front.

HadEnough11 · 06/05/2024 19:01

There were other reasons why I wouldn’t go back also but worried about saying too much here.
You are all right when you say I should have walked out. I know I need to massively work on my boundaries. I am also in need of the money but I shouldn’t have tolerated this .
