Looking for experiences from other parents.

I'm an single parent with 1 DC, who is 5. I separated from DH 6 months ago (it was and is very amicable with us communicating well and sharing parenting) and since then DC has chosen to sleep in my bed. I don't actually mind as I'm aware these days don't last forever and at the moment they are processing the change in living arrangements.

So, does anybody who has been through something similar- when/how would you approach DC going to their own bed? Just now we sit in my bed, I read stories, they sleep and I join them them when I go to bed.

How about doing the bedtime routine in their bed and seeing if they will settle there for any time at all? Or if you keep it in your room, picking them up and transferring them once they are asleep? It might start the change of mindset for some of bedtime being in their own bed.

I had been thinking about transferring them once they are asleep as they are are an extremely deep sleeper and don't wake when being moved. I think you are right about starting a shift in mindset.

Hopefully that will help.

All of my children still come into my bed from time to time (my eldest is nine) so I think it’s completely normal but I do try to get them to spend most of the night in their own beds.
